To do this, they studied how the pigments absorb, store, & emit light, and how the processes change as the materials age. These glowing colors are not only beautiful in art & fashion; but they could also make a difference in safety applications, such as luminescent paint for airplane runways. [3/4]

To keep this pantsuit and other masterpieces glowing for generations, Sobeck and colleagues studies how its pigments break down to find better ways to preserve them and create longer lasting pigments.
