Well you can't blame him, he's a Republican, and as we all know only Democrats have free will.

Yeah, Northeast electricity is no joke. Of course doesn’t help that, here in MA, Trump killed 3.2 GW of offshore wind that had been procured (along with a $300 million dollar electric cable factory) and the Hydro Quebec broke contract on our GW power deal bc of Trump’s trade war. So really f**k DJT

I’ve been on the “Susan Collins’ pain is coming” ever since Trump failed to extricate himself from Iran by heating season. There is only so much you can do vs your constituents’ hearing costs have tripled.

The American Revolution was successful because of Washington’s preternatural ability to run away without getting caught and live to fight another day

We ditched our oil furnace for heating in 2023 and for hot water in 2025. We’re now 100% heat pump baby.

Kemper Development is owned by the guy who said "I was a chemistry major in college so here is how climate change is wrong". They were also Tim Eyman's principal backers, so its safe to say they will always be on the wrong side of an issue.

And in a sense Neoconservatives are very much Rawlsians, in that they believe in Maximin and the concept that economic freedom follows from political freedom and personal rights. The O.G. neocons, like Scoop Jackson, were big Labor/Trade Unionists.

It’s also ideologically consistent with like true old-school Neoconservativism. The ideas that personal conduct, virtue, and being the vanguard of human rights and democracy all align with his party realignment and goes with their history as right-Trostskites informed by Hannah Arendt.

What infuriates me is that there is quite literally nothing more American than lots of immigrants cheering their a**es off for a college football team named the Texas Longhorns. And this is coming from a Buckeye who is very salty about that game.

Yeah, he’s not Chris so I think Pappas has this but he is still considered more “New Hampshire” GOP rather than national GOP which carries weight.

Burnished rows of steel @acreed.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
How is there anything more American than cheering for your college football team that is literally the Texas Longhorns? (Even though I’m salty about that loss as a Buckeye)

The Sununu name carries a lot of weight in NH and he’s considered fairly moderate.

Yes, but also rising expectations. My wife talks about babysitting babies when she was like 14 but that is unimaginable now (I am perhaps modestly salty about this, but it’s also bc my kid does not sleep - like 10:00 pm is a *good* night)

Honestly (I think you have kids?) I’d look at the South Coast around New Bedford. Commuter rail into the city and you can school choice into like Marion or neighboring districts for your kids. And much much much more affordable housing while being on the upswing

The NH Senate race has been giving me heartburn bc Sununu is a very strong recruit. But yeah, Ayotte is all talk little action. Mostly just keep on sucking off the unwillingness of Boston to build housing to fuel NH’s growth.

Notice how all these failures are administrative and human-centered failures and have nothing to do with the utility and usefulness of ALPRs? We need MORE automated traffic enforcement to make our streets safer.

NH has been the race that’s been giving me heartburn. Sununu is the best GOP recruit this cycle, just thankfully he’s running in a non-helpful year and Pappas is moderately popular.

I both agree but also think a perhaps better approach is a vehicle weight tax, particularly a progressive one, e.g. $1/lb below 4000lbs and $2.50/lb 4000 - 6500lb and $5.00/lb above 6500 lb.

Well, that and because California made non-competes very difficult to enforce compared to Massachusetts, hence why it’s Silicon Valley and not Silicon Rt. 130.

It’s amazing that I both (1) think this is a bad tax and bad idea and (2) that it should happen bc Tech owners all went crazy right-wing and need to be punished.

Tbf, replacing workers with robots in most cases under most circumstances results in everyone having more money and free time. A robot is a tool, and tools are why we can build robots instead of scavenging dead animals on the savanna.

It undermines fiscal situation while breading both resentment and entitlement. It’s why I like (alongside getting rid of small business deductions and 199A), among many reason, a VAT: if you want to cheat on your taxes, feel free, but you are still going to get hit with a tax you can’t escape.
020
Burnished rows of steel @acreed.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
And Tbf to MattY his pass-through (like lawyers, doctors, and other PMC type folks) don’t qualify for 199A and my bet is he probably pays into social security.

Burnished rows of steel @acreed.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
W2 earners by far carrying the heaviest tax burden. S-corps get the red carpet rolled: 199A, extra deductions, blatant cheating (e.g. why do so many pickups w/trailers at the boat ramp have a business name), avoiding payroll, etc. The IRS estimated 1/2 of the tax gap is cheating by pass-throughs.

Unfortunately they then hire Rufo and Lehman guy (sp?/iirc) is “housing good, poor people bad, it’s your own fault if you get killed by police”. After Reidel decided to leave and she is about as economically conservative as you can get, I realized their modus operandi is right-wing social policy.

My reading here is that Verb and others are debating 2 different prospects: Verb is arguing for a contextual harm mitigation while others are arguing a deontological/moral case.

Car dealerships delenda est. iirc about 1/2 of the tax gap is, according to the ITS itself, due to cheating by pass-throughs.

His campaign both (1) definitely planted that article in Axios and (2) that is the most hilarious faceplant I’ve seen in a while. They thought they had Jack Smith dead-to-rights and instead they stepped on the biggest rake imaginable bc somehow Democrats got sports in the divorce.

The evidence I’ve seen on campaigning effectiveness is the absolute best thing you can do is put out a yard sign, hand out yard signs to your friends and neighbors, and put them in public medians/right-of-ways.

Jfc a real “so you hate pancakes” scenario. That is not what I said. I said Schumer is concerned about *winning control of the Senate*. There was never, ever any doubt Mamdani would win. The swing voter in Miami-Dade, or DFW, or AK doesn’t care about NYC. And that is what Schumer is focused on.

Ah yes, bc intraparty contests over control of a mayorship (even an important one!) is the exact same as trying to gain control of the Senate. Oh wait, that’s sarcasm.

No, they don’t. They want as many Dems as possible in the House and Senate but Florida is fairly red and an expensive media market. Better to spend that money in TX, OH, hell even KS looks closer than FL right now.

As a former denizen of LessWrong, something I found interesting about it epistemically was the “small-c conservative” nature of assuming you DONT know all the facts and could be wrong and then trying to address your underlying biases. Of course it became “well we are LESSWRONG this we are CORRECT”
