I explore what it is to be human & what it means to have this shared human experience. 💙 Writer and dreamer. Poetry. Nature. Good conversation over coffee. PhD (philosophy). --Tiffany WIP: Gently Down the Stream: Reclaiming Meaning After Religion

This song is the boost I needed while doing concept-mapping work for *Gently Down the Stream: Reclaiming Meaning After Religion* (working title). I only recently discovered electroswing and... wow! #AmWriting #Author #Writing #WritingCommunity

Checking out some of the citizen science opportunities near me. What kind of projects do you participate in as a community scientist? What about it do you enjoy most? I would love to hear your experiences! #naturalism #nature #ecology #water

What is the story only you can tell? Are you sharing it? We need each other's stories… of courage, of overcoming, of love, more than ever. They keep us connected. They keep us human. Stories unfurl something beautifully wise. They inspire. They show us that humanity is worth fighting for.

I'm prepping my A Coffee for a Story project where I'll set out for coffeeshops to talk with people about the moments that matter most. In rough times, stories of deeply human experience help us remember what we are fighting for. Shared stories link us in our humanity, in our hopes and dreams. 👂💙

I'm thrilled with a decline I received from a well-known literary magazine today. The piece was one of the first I wrote upon my turn to literary writing, and I've only improved since then. Declined--but personalized with feedback (that I agree with). I did a happy dance. #writingcommunity #writer

Loving the icy seascape of the Atlantic after this last storm. This evening I explored a lone rusty lobster trap abandoned by the sea and frozen sand bubbles that make the most satisfying pop when squished with fuzzy snowboots.

New project brewing: a YA hybrid illustrated novel told through the diary of a whimsical, synesthetic teen who renames her journal Wilbur because “Dear Diary” feels too formal for existential musings and doodled frogs in crowns. It’s messy, tender, philosophical, and candle-orange warm. #writing

I went through several years of deconstructing and healing after some big life changes. Now, as I return to literary reading and writing (after a decade+ in academia), I feel something changing in me again. A lightness, expansiveness, a new hopefulness. It's the feeling of being alive, I think.

Percolating new ideas is exhilarating but exhausting- arising time and again through the night to capture liquid thoughts. I know you know it too. I'm certain all the best words, the ones we desire to become drunk upon, are created this way.

To be clear, I find this appalling. I share because I think these kinds of stories -that white people provided something of benefit to the enslaved- are still taught and believed far too often. But as religious belief is linked, and education is often shunned, I'm not sure how we break through.

Sadly, some of my ancestors owned plantations and practiced slave ownership. My mother tried to teach me that slavery wasn't always bad--that our ancestors "treated their slaves well" and thus, in return, were greatly loved by them 🤢 She takes great pride in this. She is also a religious fanatic.

Hugs! It's tough. Mine probably won't be here for long--we are nc & that won't change. I did self-work on the past harms but was surprised when a trauma response bubbled up anyhow. I realized it was the sorrow for what could have been. It's such a sad one to work through, isn't it? Hang in there. 🫂

Truth? Because I was indoctrinated and used all kinds of mind games on myself to continue believing. "Doubt your doubts" sort of thing. Same as many Christians today. It became too hard to fool myself anymore. I care too much in truth to pretend "care." I hope you find the beauty I've discovered.

American Christians likely would have crucified their storied Jesus. They complain about "xtian," mistakenly thinking it removes Christ, but they have removed him for being too "weak and woke" all by their little sad selves.

I knew someone who spent more on his dog than on his (then) fiance's engagement ring, spent loads to upgrade his Jeep & buy games- while forcing her to eat Ramen (w/ a gluten allergy), & generally limited her spending. She also brought home an income. He didn't get it when she escaped the marriage.

That's tough 😞 If it's joint inflammation... I've tried it all and stumbled on a goldenrod and wormwood salve that works amazingly well (for me at least!) but you'll not likely find it commercially and will need to make it yourself. Kinesiology tape helps me, too. I'd ❤️ to hear what works for you!

What a difference it makes, right? I didn't realize how amazing life could be until I left. I'm slowly finding people who share my values and am constantly surprised that I actually *fit* (in my solitude-loving way) with others... that I don't have to constantly fight against the grossness.
