LGBTQ+ youth shouldn’t have to spend their childhood worrying about being targeted for who they are. Instead, they deserve a back-to-school season shaped by safe classrooms and supportive educators who stand by them.

Whether you are at work, in your car, or at home, understanding your rights is one of the most powerful ways to protect yourself, your family, and your community. Navigating interactions with immigration agents can feel overwhelming, but always remember that you have rights.

Public safety relies on trust. When local law enforcement acts as an extension of federal immigration agencies, that trust erodes—a move that risks the safety, rights, and dignity of our neighbors.

We all want our downtowns to be safe and supportive spaces. But the City Council’s "Burlington Forward" proposal is out of step with evidence-based practices and raises significant civil liberties concerns.

The fight for trans equality is far from over following the BPJ v. West Virginia ruling. Despite this national setback, here in Vermont, trans women and girls remain free to play, and we are committed to keeping it that way. Yet, athletes and families in at least 27 states face a different reality.

The court’s decision to uphold birthright citizenship is a massive victory for equality and the Constitution. By rejecting attempts to dismantle a fundamental pillar of American life, we have protected the rights of every baby and family born in this country.

The legislative session is a wrap, and we have a lot to cover—and even more work ahead of us. This year, we saw some impressive victories for civil rights and civil liberties—and unfortunately, several areas where state leaders fell short of meeting the needs of the people of Vermont.

Vermont renters are already facing weak protections and one of the worst housing crises in the country. It could get worse. This week, the Vermont Senate is voting on H. 772—a bill that will tip the scales in favor of landlords even more and strip tenants of basic rights to privacy and association.

A right without a remedy isn't a right at all. When federal officers operate inside our communities, they must be bound by the same constitutional guardrails as everyone else. Vermont is leading the charge to ensure that no one is above the law, whether at the local, state, or federal level.

Congress is voting this week on a bill that would hand an additional 70 billion dollars to ICE and Border Patrol with absolutely no strings attached. If this passes without major reforms, it gives a green light for continued violence, racial profiling, and zero accountability in our communities.

The clock is ticking on H.849! H.849 is now on Governor Scott’s desk, and the window for him to take action is quickly closing. If signed, this bill would be a win for accountability by ensuring that everyone in Vermont—including federal agents—must answer for constitutional rights violations.
