Vote to protect our Constitution. Vote to protect equity. Vote NO on Question 3.
Vote No on the anti-equity amendmentWe've seen this before. Politicians are using misleading ballot question to pass harmful policies rather than actually improving our lives. This time, legislators are pushing a racist anti-equity amendment to permanently change our Constitution and make it hard for the government to ensure fair access and opportunities. Vote No.

We honor Wisconsin's Indigenous communities and the fight for cultural preservation, sovereignty, and justice.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Today we honor Native Americans (and not that other guy)Why Indigenous Peoples’ Day? Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an effort to tell the truth about our country’s history. Since the ‘90s, universities, localities, and states have formally replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ or Native Americans’ Day.
The fight to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day began much earlier — led by Native American and Indigenous people advocating for our voices to be heard – and the movement has grown larger every year.Wisconsin, home to at least 12 Native nations, declared this day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in October 2019. Many Native communities advocate to recognize this day on the local and state level. Members of the Ho-Chunk Nation for Wausau and Marathon counties to establish their own Indigenous Peoples’ Day in May 2019, and students of the Indian Community School in Franklin had advocated for the resolution for many years. We continue the fight alongside our partners to defend the rights of Native American and Indigenous people to vote, speak and protest freely, live our lives free from discrimination and criminalization, and live without government abuse of power

Learn where the candidates for Wisconsin Governor stand on civil rights and liberties issues. We are nonpartisan and do not endorse or oppose candidates. We want every eligible voter to be informed. Sources linked at www.aclu-wi.org/publications...
Governor candidates on the issues: In a 2025 press release David Crowley said "I believe that access to safe, legal abortion is essential healthcare." Tom Tiffany tweeted in 2021, "I will always stand for life and support legislation that protects the unborn." On immigration enforcement, David Crowley is quoted in News from the States to have said in 2026 that "People, regardless of immigration status... are in danger when ICE operates this way in our neighborhoods." Tom Tiffany's campaign website states, "As governor, I will ban sanctuary policies statewide." Regarding LGBTQ+ rights, David Crowley called for the repeal of Wisconsin's same-sex marriage ban, whereas Tom Tiffany voted against the bipartisan Respect For Marriage Act protecting recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages across states. Election Day is November 3, 2026. The ACLU of Wisconsin does not endorse or oppose candidates.

Governor Evers protected trans kids. Will the next governor of Wisconsin do the same? www.aclu-wi.org/news/without...
Without the governor's veto, Wisconsin families with trans kids might flee.We are fortunate that Governor Evers vetoed every single anti-trans bill that made it onto his desk. The governor's veto is a crucial firewall against legislation attacking LGBTQ+ rights.Governor Evers vetoed 2 gender-affirming care bans, 3 anti-trans sports bills, a forced outing bill, and more. We are glad that he used his veto to stop all of these nightmare scenarios.Wisconsin families deserve the freedom to love and support their child, transgender or not. Every state should be a safe place to raise every family.

What do your elected officials (on the ballot November 3rd) do?Governor: One of the most important roles of the governor is to sign legislation into law or stop it through their veto.

State Assembly & Senate: Our legislators propose and vote on bills. They decide whether legislation protects or attacks our civil rights and liberties.

Legislation passed by the State Senate and Assembly, then signed by the Governor, becomes Wisconsin law.

Granting commutations helps strengthen communities — releasing people who are unjustifiably imprisoned and allowing them to return home to their families, their communities, and their workforce helps everyone. Learn more about the application process at justiceforwardwi.org/commutations.
Gov. Evers signed two executive orders in April establishing a process to grant commutations for the first time in 25 years.Commutations are a form of clemency by which governors can shorten a person's prison sentence.Instead of spending millions to incarcerate people for decades with extreme sentences, commutations offer a pathway for release for people who have shown positive change.Commutations might apply in cases such as people in prison for convictions no longer considered crimes, elderly people with serious health conditions, or people forced to defend themselves against an abuser. The process is selective and thorough.

On this day 65 years ago, Milwaukee gay bar patrons resisted anti-LGBTQ+ violence in what became known as the Black Nite Brawl, a precursor to Stonewall.
On August 5, 1961, four party-going sailors entered Black Nite, a popular St. Paul Avenue gay bar in Milwaukee, on a dare. They started a fight with the bouncer, only to be chased out of the bar by gender nonconforming Black "queen" Josie Carter. The men later returned with reinforcements and began to tear the bar apart, but were met with stiff resistance by bar patrons.

If your rights are violated, document everything.
Know Your Protest Rights:
You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news, as long as you're not obstructing traffic or access to building.

You have the right to photograph or film anything in plain view.

If you get stopped, ask if you're free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away.

If you get arrested, you have a right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Don't sign, say or agree to anything without a lawyer present.
