Our campaign, Opportunity Forward, has just launched with the goal of responding to the rising threats to due process and community safety in Kansas. To learn more about our mission's goals for defending immigrants' rights in Kansas, click here: loom.ly/tCNkzJI

OPPORTUNITY FORWARD - ACLU of Kansas
In Kansas, we believe people should be judged by their character, actions and contributions—not by where they come from, what language they speak, or what they look like. Attacks on immigrants' civil rights from the state and federal level have chipped away at our fundamental values that keep us safe and open the doors to...

Why won't Kansas officials take "no" for an answer? Twice in 2022 and 2026 Kansas officials have tried to attack civil liberties through constitutional amendments. And twice Kansans have already said "no" with historic margins.

We're excited to announce our newest campaign: Opportunity Forward. This campaign aims to ensure every Kansan is given the chance to thrive in the Free State. In other words, to move opportunity forward.

We're seen that when ICE shows up, our communities are exposed to violence, turmoil, and wonton trampling of our civil liberties. Kansas cities and counties can and should say "no" to 287(g) agreements, which forces local resources to support ICE's assault on our well-being.

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
With the rise of ICE activity since the second Trump administration, it's crucial we remind our elected officials that we do not want our taxpayer dollars being used to invite fear and terror in the form of ICE into our Kansas communities. Say NO to 287(g) Agreements.

As Connie Schmidt gets appointed as permanent Johnson County election commissioner, reminder that the voters have a simple, reasonable appeal: reopen the closed early voting locations and let voters vote!

You can keep an eye on your local police with us through the ICE 287(g) website: www.ice.gov/identify-and-arrest/287g. If your municipality signed an optional 287(g) agreement with ICE, tell your local representative how you feel about your tax dollars being weaponized against your own community.

When you're accused of a felony, you are innocent until proven guilty—which means your voting rights remain intact before your conviction. But only 15 Kansas counties have vote from jail or other programs to help community members cast their vote.

ICE working with local law enforcement in our towns is NOT NORMAL‼️ With the rise of ICE activity, it's crucial we remind our elected officials that we do not want our taxpayer dollars being used to invite fear and terror in the form of ICE into our Kansas communities. Say NO to 287(g) Agreements.

Take action to send a clear message to Governor Kelly before it's too late: It's time to commute death sentences in Kansas.

This primary, we saw JoCo Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt abruptly close 8 early voting locations that have been open for years. Reopening them would be an easy and effective way to help people vote and to restore the community's trust in the county election office.
0145
ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
No one should miss the opportunity to vote because of closed polls. JoCo residents, contact Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt and tell her to reopen the locations she closed!

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Wouldn't it be so chic of Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt to restore those 8 early voting locations she closed in Johnson County by our November General Election?💅🤔

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
More in-person early voting locations correlates to higher voter turnout (and closing locations clearly correlate with lower turnout). No Kansas county should be trying to close locations—and EVERY Kansas county could benefit from more advance voting polls.

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
This week, city officials in both Overland Park and Olathe made the regrettable decisions to double down on Kansas's so-called HALO Law by incorporating it into city codes, creating a 25-foot "buffer zone" around first responders. These vague and broad ordinances threaten lawful public observation.

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Kansas police should NOT be doing President Trump’s bidding. Kansas counties must do their part to ensure our communities are safe and protected, and that means saying NO to 287(g) Agreements in Kansas.

ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Our county officials have the ability to opt out of Flock, Axon, and other surveillance tech contracts. Instead many Kansas municipalities are doing the exact opposite. Take action against mass government surveillance in your community at aclu.org/gettheflockout.

As we forewarned, making early voting harder meant a massive hit to voter turnout in this month's primary election. Join us in calling on Connie Schmidt to return to the plan that offered more locations and led to higher voter turnout.

To: All County Election Officials RE: Election Protection Program for August 4, 2026 Primary Election - ACLU of Kansas
On August 18, 2026, we sent a letter to all Kansas County Election Officials regarding two issues that arose during our 2026 Primary Election Protection Program: 1) reports from voters receiving mixed messages or encountering confusion from poll workers about the voting options for unaffiliated voters and voters affiliated with a party that is neither...

Instead of providing safety for Kansans, 287(g) agreements are taking our neighbors out of communities and our taxpayer dollars out of our pockets. Say NO to 287(g) cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE in Kansas.
052
ACLU of Kansas @aclukansas.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Under 287(g) Agreements, ICE and local law enforcement are given the authority to detain whoever they want whenever they want based on your race, accent, or even your last name. Tell your representatives to withdraw or refuse 287(g) Agreements with ICE today.
