Each playable aircraft gains combat experience by sortieing in them, and in turn they can level up and gain stats similar to the way they did in Infinity. Aircraft sets are back with new "Ability" settings. Multiple emblem slots are available for different emblems.

Two types of special emergency missions may occur after you finish matches in either mode. Scramble missions have a team of 4 vs enemy NPCs, while Emergency Sortie missions have a team of 8 vs historic superweapons, including Chandelier and the Arsenal Bird.

UPDATE: "Chance-Based" has also been removed from #AceCombat 8's provisional rating in Australia. It was previously removed from the Xbox store back in January. Now, there is no evidence left of any chance-based microtransactions (i.e. lootboxes) in the game.

Once an hour, if your device was set to April 1, a swarm of Bacura would fly down from the top of the screen. Scrapped ideas included autoplaying the game music (bad idea on websites) and being able to shoot them down (didn't have enough time to code it, maybe next year?).
