Remember, security isn’t a state you reach; it’s a practice you keep! Read more ▶️ www.accessnow.org/apple-threat...
What else should I do if I received a threat notification?

If you are a member of civil society, you can reach out to Access Now’s Digital Security Helpline.

We understand that you may be going through a difficult time, but it’s important not to rely on shortcuts: don’t trust what you read using AI search tools and avoid digital services that offer “quick fixes.”

Some of these may scan your phone and tell you your device is clean, but their capacities are quite limited and give you a false sense of security. This may actually distract you from taking important security measures. Can I take any preventative measures to protect myself from spyware?

A few key steps can go a long way:
Update your device promptly and activate high-security features like Apple’s Lockdown Mode.
Reduce your attack surface by separating personal from work life and limiting the number of apps and accounts on your device.
Exercise caution before interacting with links and files that you receive.
Turn off link previews on Signal and WhatsApp, and enable disappearing messages by default.
Reboot your devices regularly.

Remember, security isn’t a state you reach; it’s a practice you keep.

Apple has long warned users about potential spyware attacks, and is now placing alerts directly on devices’ Lock Screen and in Settings, making them harder to miss. Here’s what you need to know about what they mean for your digital security.
What you need to know about Apple Threat Notifications:

Apple has long warned users about potential spyware attacks, and is now placing alerts directly on devices’ Lock Screen and in Settings, making them harder to miss.

Here’s what you need to know about what they mean for your digital security. What is an Apple Threat Notification?

It’s an alert indicating that Apple has detected activity on your device consistent with a targeted attack involving “mercenary spyware,” high-grade surveillance software sold by companies like NSO Group or Paragon to governments.

The alert does not, however:
Confirm if the attack succeeded
Provide more details about who is behind it, their motives, or the specific attack chronology

More analysis is needed to see the complete picture. How do I confirm if I was attacked by spyware?

If you received a notification, take it seriously and seek expert support from trusted professionals or organizations who can help you conduct a digital forensic investigation.

In the meantime, do not reboot or reset the device, as you need to preserve the evidence for further analysis.

Spyware evolves quickly and is great at hiding its traces, so this process may take time. But investigators will guide you through it and help you regain control of your digital assets and communications. How do I know the notification is not a scam?

You should always be cautious about warnings like this!

A real Apple Threat Notification now appears in your iPhone’s Lock Screen and in Settings.

You will also receive an email, so verify that the sender is the one that Apple uses as of August 2026: threat-notifications@email.apple.com. If you log in to your Apple account, you will also see the alert as a banner at the top of the page.

Since June 5, 2026, authorities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have indefinitely cut off internet access for over six million people following regional protests.

This prolonged shutdown has disrupted communication, education, healthcare and economic activities, creating a dangerous information vacuum that puts lives at risk.

Amid the shutdown, clashes between protesters and police have resulted in dozens of injuries and the deaths of at least 30 people. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/nine-killed-pakistan-administered-kashmir-clashes-2026-07-14/
Shutdowns are not harmless; swipe to read the testimonies of those impacted.
Due to this shutdown, I am unable to contact my family members and check on their safety and well-being causing significant emotional stress for me and my loved ones. The communication blackout is affecting family connections, access to information, education, online services and daily life. This shutdown has affected thousands of freelancers, students, remote workers, online businesses, content creators, and small business owners who rely on the internet every day. Many freelancers have missed project deadlines, lost international clients, and faced financial losses because they could not communicate or deliver work on time. Students have been unable to attend online classes, access educational resources, or submit assignments. Businesses that depend on online communication and digital payments have also suffered. I am entirely unable to access or remotely monitor my home and professional CCTV security cameras. In a high-tension environment with active protests and security deployments, being stripped of the ability to monitor my own property leaves my family and assets completely vulnerable and exposed. I am also completely blocked from contacting my family members. Not knowing if loved ones are safe during ongoing civil unrest is causing immense psychological distress and leaves us unable to coordinate or help one another in an emergency.

The World Cup brings countries together and some of them share more than a World Cup spot.

In 2025, some nations competed in another race: shutting down the internet. The scoreboard no one wanted!

Our latest #KeepItOn report documented 313 internet shutdowns across 52 countries in 2025.

That is the highest number ever recorded.

10 of those countries are participating in the World Cup.The real fight is for connection!

The 2025 report confirmed a horrific reality: internet shutdowns are rising globally. However, at the same time, global resistance to these acts of repression is growing.
