First tip in our new series #FixYourForm is all about how to handle the age-old question of helper text. The short of it? Stop hiding important context behind those annoying little info icons and just... tell your user what they might need to know before frustration sets in. buff.ly/C35h0Y0

UX designer still care, unfortunately most companies don’t want to give them the voice, time, or budget to actually do the work correctly… let alone adopt the recommendations. And don’t even get me started on developer resistance and the total lack of front-end QA protocols 😤

#digitalaccessibility tip: Avoid using color as the sole method of communicating meaning (errors, successes, statuses, links, etc). Color blind users may not be able to reliably detect these differences so always pair them with another clue such as an icon, text label, or pattern.

1 confirmation is good UX (you should always confirm a destructive action) but multiple confirmations is a *dark UX* pattern that unfortunately works by confusing users out of their decision. These are implemented by business leaders and optimization teams not UX designers.

Everytime this topic comes up I like to bring up the Hulu + Alec Baldwin ad campaigns when they first launched that explained Hulu has ads, and always would but it was because they would never charge a fee to access content. How quickly that changed a few years later

WCAG 2.2 addition: Consistent Help (3.2.6). If you offer help — contact link, support chat, FAQ, phone — it must sit in the same relative place on every page that has it. People with cognitive disabilities rely on it being where they last found it. Put it in the layout shell. #a11y

This is a great distinction and I agree 100%. I’ve started using AI (especially with the Figma MCP) to accelerate my development too but I’m still hands on in the code editing and refining - which I wouldn’t consider being an AI generated website

FYI—alt-text is meant to provide a literal description of the contents of an image for non-sighted users. What you’ve written is serving as a caption, and the two are very different!

Many small-businesses prioritize site aesthetic over function. An "aesthetic-first" site can wind up overlooking the basics—how to contact you, buy, book, or understand what you do. Always prioritize the function and structure of your website, then make it look good.

First impressions form fast (we're talking milliseconds), and a huge share of people judge credibility based on the website experience, design, and overall speed. Optimizing your UX directly affects the confidence new users have in your business and product.

"I have a master's in software development, and accessibility was never in the curriculum." A developer told me that last week. When accessibility gets missed, it's almost never that people don't care. It's that no one ever taught them. That's a far more hopeful problem to solve. #a11y
