Unexpectedly, while most months have joyful & hopeful poems, the chromographs for the heights of Summer, June & July, have 'momento mori'. ☠️
A poem for June illustrated with ox-eye daisies and a butterfly. The poem reads
"On the fragrant mead,
among the new-mown hay,
we see the daisies tall,
that bloomed but yesterday
now with'ring with the grass-
their transient glory gone,
and in their lesson see
the fate of everyone."A poem for July illustrated with convolvulus flowers. The poem reads
"In the dew of Summer morn,
are thy varied blossoms born-
born to meet the Sun's first ray,
soon, too soon, to pass away.
Look upon them, for they say-
'Do your duty while you may,
lest you die, your work undone,
and may se no morrow's sun.'"

High heels with a wizard's robe is a bold look for a gnome. He may not be in full armour, but he has my respect regardless.

You had x3 & x4 by default? I've never had more than a x2 option. To go faster I've always pasted a bit of code into the browser console. (See alt text if you're interested.)
Prompt that the console method provides after pasting the following into the browser console (Right click -> "Inspect element" -> "Console" tab):

var v = document.querySelector('video');
var t = prompt('Set the playback rate');
v.playbackRate = parseFloat(t)

Paste the whole thing in at once, rather than each line separately, & hit "Enter".

Absolutely! People imagine bio labs are pristine, but working labs are often cluttered. Lots of sticky notes, bottles, overflowing shelves. These images are usually closer to reality than typical lab stock images. Hygiene still matters though so don't forget laminar flow hoods & nitrile gloves.

Like instead of commanding the weather to mourn, Dracula commands the weather to "purge [his] sorrow". Similar, but different enough to change the vibe of the scene.
A scene from the English subtitled version of Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned (1980) in which Dracula commands storms to gather to purge his sorrow.

A fragment of organic glass discovered at Herculaneum. It represents the only known case of a human brain (or any animal tissue) being preserved by volcanic vitrification. The figure (right) shows electron micrographs of a sample which include preserved axons!
Two views of a fragment of volcanically vitrified human brain matter recovered at the archaeological site of Herculaneum from the cranial cavity of a man killed by the eruption of Vesuvius. The black scale bar at the bottom represents 1 cm. (doi: 10.1056/NEJMc1909867)Figure from a recent paper, Giordano et al. (2025), including a photo of a sample of volcanic glass preserving human brain tissue. Panels (e) and (f) are electron microscope images which highlight preserved neuronal structures including axons. Some people like to say there is no such thing as a perfect movie. They are wrong.

Nice! "On Guard" definitely fits the story. One variation I saw is captioned "we is brothers". Fun to see that catspeak apparently goes back to 1902. If it were in colour & the caption were in Impact font it'd be indistinguishable from a lolcat from 2007.
An Albee Studios postcard from circa 1902 depicting a black and white photograph of two fluffy kittens. The photo is captioned "we is brothers".

On metals which are liquid at room temperature, there are also a range of eutectic metal alloys some of which have very low melting points. Na-K-Cs alloys can have impressively low melting points, evidently going as low as 195.2 K (-78 °C).

Looking forward to opening my easter eggs tomorrow... 😋
Forbidden easter eggs. (Unopened xenomorph eggs as depicted in 2017 film Alien: Covenant.)

Horses do have whiskers! Unfortunately, some people cut them for aesthetic reasons, but many equestrian societies have started to ban the practice.

Okay, I do see the elephant, but at first I saw a ghostly figure reclining comfortably on the x-axis, perhaps welcoming you to the seat next to them.
Von Neumann’s elephant plotted on a cartesian plane with x and y axes. A cheerful face has been imposed to create the illustrate a seated figure in place of an elephant.

Most pages uses a C clef on the top blue (or black?) stave but I found a page (fol. [6]v) with an F clef on the red stave, where the colours also appear in a different order with green & red on top rather than in the middle. This pattern of colours is used only for the part with an F clef.
Detail from a page (folio 6 verso) of a medieval manuscript including early music notation with neumes and four staves in differing colours. Contrast and saturation have been adjusted from the original.

Sculpted in 1961 by David Wynne, this statue depicts London Zoo's Guy the Gorilla who resided there between 1947–1978. 🦍 The statue is made from fossiliferous marble, though I don't know how old. Perhaps Carboniferous? Perhaps it contains crinoid microfossils...
