[Alcohol, picture of some beers, international beer day] It's the first Friday of August, which means it's International Beer Day! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International… And in the UK it's Friday evening, so it's time to open a can a ruminate […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

I bought a Pixel 3/4 years ago because I wanted timely security updates, I don't want any of this shit. How does GrapheneOS play with banking apps these days? That's the one thing that's been holding me back for the last year but things are getting desperate.
Slop, AI slop s far as the eye can see. This is the feature list for the June Pixel update including 'screen reactions' (selfie videos over the comments of your phone screen), Gemini Omni (AI) video editing, generative song/music writing from a prompt (eugh), and 'turn your apps onto floating bubbles' (not going to lie, I have no idea)

My favourite snippet from that McSweeney's AI economics article. Needed that this week, the AI shill at work is real

Look at this little box of joy that arrived this morning! £8.75 a bag, random selection, and free postage, where are you going to find a better deal today? Ordered Wednesday afternoon, arrived Friday morning. And the fact it's from a Fedi business is the icing […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

@Mutedog Hi! Hope you don't mind a cheeky brewing question. I've been giving the silver birch in my garden a haircut and I have a large pile of birch branches with seed pods on them. Have seen you doing interesting things with bits of tree in your brewing […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

[Alcohol production] It's been quiet for a while on the homebrew rhubarb wine front. The demijohns started a second wave of fermentation and have been blipping away all summer and most of the autumn - I think adding honey confused the yeast a bit. But today […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

A shout out to Hatchlings Games. They're a small indie RPG publisher based in Bristol, and _Inspirisles_ is their RPG system that aims to teach some of the fundamentals of BSL and/or ASL sign language. Finger spelling and basic sentence formation are built […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

Had three of these droning around the garden this evening, and they absolutely had me fooled until I looked them up to make sure they weren't the dreaded Asian hornets. Needless to say, they're not.

3 years of trying, and I have finally grown a Broad Bean! Planting them out earlier and earlier trying to beat the blackfly was a mug's game apparently, the wise grower leaves it late so they don't start shooting until the blackfly predators are out […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

I guess at least someone in TFL had the foresight to mask those IP addresses in the event that this happened.

[Alcohol production] Fermentation has not kicked off again since adding the honey, so desperate times. I ordered another pack of the MA33 yeast and split it between demijohns. If that fails I've got a mead yeast waiting in the wings (that must be good at […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

[Alcohol production] Decided to be Probably Too Clever and see if I could a) boost this Rhubarb wine a little by adding some more sugar and b) get a meady flavour by adding this sugar in the form of honey. So we're back on the bubblers, let's see if the […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

[Alcohol production] Rhubarb wine racked into fresh demijohns for aging. Hydrometer reading of 990, suggesting that these have fermented to dryness and are ready to age. Quicker than I expected, but they were fairly low starting gravity. OG 1055 down to 990 […] [Original post on mastodon.me.uk]

[Alcohol production] The bubbles have pretty much stopped and the sediment is settling nicely. I was expecting this to blip away for a couple more weeks but will leave it until the weekend and take a hydrometer reading, see what's going on.

[Alcohol production (hopefully!)] Two gallons proto-Rhubarb wine removed from bucket into demijohns for secondary fermentation. My siphoning technique needs some practice, but we got there. #homebrewing #winemaking

One of my favourite things about Spring these days is finding and learning all the little wildflowers that are popping up in my 'strategically' neglected lawn. I think this one is Lesser Trefoil. Huge patches of it across my small, south facing front lawn.

About 36 hours since pitching the yeast and we have lots of little bubbles. Fermentation number one is underway.
