26 years to the day that we watched Jamal al-Durrah try to protect his 12-year-old son Muhammad from being shot and killed as he tried to hide by his side. Muhammad was killed a few minutes after this picture was taken. 23 years later, Israel killed Jamal’s brothers too.

Every morning you open your eyes, hear the world around you,see its full palette of colors & read simple words on a screen, you are experiencing silent privileges millions can only dream of. Say Alhamdulillah not because life is perfect, but because so many silent struggles were kept away from yours.

The air inside the temporary shelter carries the heavy weight of memories. Little Kanan sits at the entrance, his quiet gaze fixed on the distance. He is the sole survivor of a family taken in an instant, left to bear the overwhelming silence of a home reduced to rubble.

At just six years old, childhood should be about running free, chasing dreams, and discovering the world. But for little Sila Abu Karim in Gaza’s Al-Maghazi Camp, that innocence was stolen in a single, terrifying instant.
At just six years old, childhood should be about running free, chasing dreams, and discovering the world. But for little Sila Abu Karim in Gaza’s Al-Maghazi Camp, that innocence was stolen in a single, terrifying instant. A shrapnel strike right outside her home left her with a severe spinal injury—leaving her fragile body painfully curved and turning even sitting or standing into an unbearable struggle.
It breaks my heart to think of a child enduring this kind of daily agony. What makes this tragedy even heavier is knowing that her chance to heal exists, but remains painfully out of reach. The specialized care Sila desperately needs is simply unavailable inside Gaza, and with every passing day, her family watches her window for recovery shrink, terrified that she may lose her mobility forever.
No child should have their future stolen by unanswered pain. Sila’s story isn't just another report; it is a heartbreaking reminder of our shared humanity. She urgently needs medical evacuation outside Gaza for specialized treatment—because she deserves the chance to heal, to stand tall, and to simply be a child again.

Yesterday, the child Israa Al-Hessi was killed by Israeli forces’ gunfire in the central Gaza Strip. Today, her mother died from her injuries sustained after being shot by Israeli forces.

Palestinian children bathe in small tubs filled with water inside ruined buildings to cool off as displaced Palestinians endure extreme summer temperatures inside makeshift nylon tents in Gaza City, Gaza, Palestine on August 27, 2026.
GAZA CITY, GAZA, PALESTINE - AUGUST 27: Palestinian children bathe in small tubs filled with water inside ruined buildings to cool off as displaced Palestinians endure extreme summer temperatures inside makeshift nylon tents in Gaza City, Gaza, Palestine on August 27, 2026. Living under continuous Israeli attacks and a strict blockade for three years, thousands of displaced families struggle for survival in ruined buildings or oven-like tents devoid of basic amenities, water, and electricity, making even a moment of relief from the high temperatures a rare luxury.

Relatives grieve over the bodies of Palestinians, killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a beachfront cafe in the port area west of Gaza City, during funeral proceedings at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Gaza, Palestine on August 19, 2026. At least six Palestinians, including a child, were killed and more than 14 others injured when an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fired missiles at the crowded cafe, despite calls from U.S. President Donald Trump for Israel to cease attacks in the enclave. Following the completion of funeral rites at the hospital, the victims were taken for burial by their mourning families.

The child, Hassan Al-Qatraoui, was killed by the Israeli occupation today in central Gaza under the pretext of the kites. His family's home was bombed, and they were unable to evacuate.

Look closely at the face... not to identify the person in the picture, but to understand what war and deprivation can do to early childhood. How many dreams can be postponed by the search for water?

Correction through action is more effective than correction through words. “He who corrects himself, through his actions, will be able to correct many people who cannot be corrected even by long talks.” — Imam Ibn al-Jawzi (may Allah have mercy on him) [Source: Said al-Khattir, p. 524]

In Islam, a child’s responsibilities toward parents are summarized in three core points: *Respect: Speak gently and never show irritation. *Obey: Follow their wishes (unless they go against God). *Care: Provide for them and pray (Dua) for their mercy.
From an Islamic perspective, a child’s responsibilities toward their parents are considered among the highest virtues, second only to the worship of Allah.
Here is a brief breakdown of those core duties:

Utmost Respect (Ihsan): Treating parents with maximum kindness, patience, and gentleness. The Qur'an explicitly forbids showing even the slightest sign of irritation, such as saying "uff" to them (Surah Al-Isra, 17:23).

Obedience: Complying with their requests and wishes in all matters, as long as they do not command something that goes against the laws of Islam (disobedience to God).

Financial Support and Care: Providing for their physical needs, shelter, food, and medical care as they age, ensuring they live comfortably just as they provided for the child in infancy.
Kind Speech: Speaking to them with humility, honor, and a gentle tone, avoiding arguments or harsh language.

Supplication (Dua): Constantly praying for their well-being, mercy, and forgiveness, both during their lifetime and after their passing. A well-known prophetic prayer is: "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."

Maintaining Their Legacy: Honoring their ties after they pass away by keeping in touch with their friends and extended family members.

When asked by the Angel Gabriel about Ihsan, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave a definition that is both breathtakingly simple and infinitely deep: "It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
