Alarming how short the tails of this destructive trend in USA science research. Has anyone banded together to try to make the recovery at least half as fast? Nothing inherently necessary to USA research, except there are a lot of eggs in that basket.

Wow - I really do believe the inner monologue going on here is, "person, woman, man, camera, tv."

Despite a weird, neglected childhood under the non-supervision of his carny parents (hence Rutherford B. Hotdogs), he's the goto guy in silicon valley for rich guys wanting someone to find and restore VW vans for them. B is for Brian.

I like the dramatic lighting, and then I thought did the original sculptor consider that type of lighting, and was that kind of lighting available to them and what was the lighting context this thing was found in and all this is the fun of seeing this object in my scroll at far too late an hour.

I always envisioned the guy in the Pina Colada song getting a little cynical and becoming that cocky guy in Die Hard who tries to negotiate with Hans Gruber and gets shot.

Songs of my childhood! I remember them well: Convoy (story about traffic infractions) Gypsies Tramps and Thieves (early gig economy tale) Pina Colada Song (character study of an annoying 70s guy)

I LOVED my 30's (started with a total solar eclipse on Aruba and just got better after that.) And to mangle a cross stich saying : "Though my hair is getting grey, there's something to like in every day." Wow, that's more cloyingly sweet than the hard candies I now crave.

I am hartbroken by the destruction in that part of the world. I mapped the Orinoco river delta, based on Margarita Island in 1998. I was struck by the way Trinidad looked just like its shape on the map, even from 10,000 km in the air. Hope to help Venezuela recover.

Really good posts. Fun to revisit from the future. I remember how this was presented leading up to eruption, and then experiencing from the edges of the zone where this was a Really Bad Thing (fine dust film in Denver). Learned that we are still participants in a global ... globe.

Did they use the big ladder truck? Our family always exclaimed, "they're using the Gronker!" when they pulled that out. Love a Gronker episode. Maybe they had it bat cleanup in a later episode.

The New Age of Plush Filth sounds like a great book title. Anyone who lived through the old age knows exactly the sensory melange that is plush filth.

Expecting him to work in a few words he's never said before to feed some friends in the prediction markets, but also, he will mispronounce one or more (having never said them before). This prediction I make not for money, but for ephemeral bluesky glory.

A curved curb in a parking lot has a segment of curb offset from the rest.A panoramic photo centered on a flapole shows the buildings of the USGS campus in Menlo Park. No people or cars are visible.

A red street curb is offset from its neighbors.Looking across a street in a park the curbs are offset and there are cracks consistent with shearing.A rounds, brass USGS benchmark shows 1994 ft above sea level

Then I went to the closed down Menlo Park office of the USGS. Very deserted, eerie and cool to see. The outdoor rock specimens have been removed (a good thing). The benchmark was emblematic.

... crappy municipal maintenance - but it was cool to see. This really is a great place to see plate tectonics writ small. A lot of the f a mous curb offsets, etc in Berkeley have been fixed because, well, people need to walk and drive on straight roads.

I went on a small self-guided Bay Area geology tour today. I went to Fremont Central Park to see the Hayward fault creep. An internet guide guided me to some curb offsets and echelon cracks, which you can see in the photos. It may seem like an inside joke, and this could equally be explained by

It was always a cruel system. Swiss children of millionaires got in easily because of low numbers of applicants. Indonesians with problematic names - no chance. I thought they got rid of this a couple years ago. I submitted for my husband at least ten times. That being said, K. Noem is residue.
