Which ultimately was the fate of much of the lowlands forest in Norway too - fuel for mining, or shipbuilding, much of which was for foreign navies (in the 1500s and 1600s at least). Doesn't change that ultimately, Norway being predominantly spruce is down to biogeography, not management.

Dislike Norwegian nature all you want. That's a preference, and you're entitled to it. But a boreal landscape isn't degraded for failing to resemble lowland England. Your forestry critique stands on its own. The aesthetics were never evidence for it.

They're ancient because of pollarding. Repeated cutting extends an oak far past a maiden tree's span. And the wide low crowns are open-grown parkland form, not closed-canopy wildwood. Not preserved, not magic. Made. Your 'wildwoods' were 'respected' into their state by aristocrats for hunting.

As for the general tone of your posts, which has gone from 'meh' through 'monotonous forest' to 'Not a pristine natural landscape' - I don't know what you're actually trying to say here. Is natural landscape beautiful only when untouched? Are only verdant forests pretty?

And no, we don't have oaks because we're not in a climate to have them, much past the coastal strip near Olsofjorden. We're thoroughly boreal. Spruce didn't replace oak through forestry, it replaced it through migration. Narrowly, what oak we did have near the coasts were extensively cut for boats.

Not really. England has a lot of medieval deer parks that escaped conversion, private landownership and a near absence of destructive wars. Britain's veteran trees are more byproduct of Norman huntingprivilege and aristocratic land tenure, and is parkland and pasture more than woodland.

Ookay. Yes, it's 'soilless', because Norway was formed by glacial geology. Most Norwegian soil was scraped off by the ice sheet and dumped in the North Sea. We have about 10k years of soil development. The sanitisation isn't all manmade, it's also climate. You don't get much species variation in 10k

I have some numbers for you too, Larian. Not a single weekend below 50,000 concurrent players since launch. Including after the final update. That's some staying power right there. Well done, you glorious lunatics, you.

It's not. What, you think the only way to be environmentally friendly is to embrace it as a religion? We're dealing with reality here. The world still needs oil and gas. Norway has one of the cleanest oil and gas productions in the world. Every barrel made here is a dirtier one not made elsewhere.

So because it has not fixed EVERYTHING right away, it's not good enough? That is a brainless take.

Absolver @absolver.bsky.localecho.net · 08/07/2026
Because even with the dirtiest oil or coal power plant production, using that energy to charge an EV is STILL more efficient and cleaner than driving a fossil fuel car.

Absolver @absolver.bsky.localecho.net · 08/07/2026
The EV incentives in Norway was not financed by the sovereign oil fund. They are almost purely from tax loss for the government, not money doled out from the state. Sure, you can argue the 2.8% profit that goes to state budget is used to cover that loss, but that would be disingenuous.

I'll grant you, there are those who have actually aligned with Trump. But America is not Trump alone, and the rest of the world does need to deal with the US, even if we have to hold our noses while doing it. Let's call it what it is. Tolerance, while waiting for things to improve.

Well, law tends to be pretty literal in interpretation. And this statement they've made is definitely not true for any definition of 'all'. It is nitpicking, granted, but in the context of the order? They are not compliant.

This is not a 'bad code' error. You're failing a conditional access rule set by your organization or employer. They will be able to tell what the problem is from sign in logs. Contact your IT department.

You don't think games like Cyberpunk 2077, or Crimson Desert, have art style? Even distinct ones? I think their artist teams would be politely inclined to disagree with your assessment. But your subjective experience is yours, of course. It doesn't make it gospel, though.

We're not in any means short on games that do not go for highly realistic graphics. I find there's nothing wrong with a game that seeks to portray my game's medieval, alien, futuristic or even contemporary environments and characters in near movielike fidelity. Art direction is more than resolution.

Refugees in Norway are primarily Ukrainian, Syrian, Eritrean or Afghan. So no. This is not racism. It's certainly not anti-immigrant. It is ensuring that the right KIND of benefits is being offered to refugees. It changes nothing about their access to other benefits like health care and living.

Absolver @absolver.bsky.localecho.net · 18/04/2026
Swing and a miss. Refugees in Norway (Who are neither primarily black or muslim) are not being denied benefits. The benefits programs available for the first five years of refugee residency is changing, aimed towards increasing work participation and integration.

No. Everything after a ? is a query parameter, and may be a vital part of the URL. You must either know which parameters are needed and which are tracking, or pass it through an URL cleaner like LinkCleaner.

I'm sorry, what are you trying to prove here? The very graph your are pointing at shows visually that North Sea LNG is about 4 times less carbon intensive to extract than global import. Or did you somehow imagine that north sea LNG is magical and causes less CO2 when you burn it?

No, Johnson. It's not shameful. It's the LAW. Ignoring that, and the constitution, is what is shameful. But it has been clear for some time that you and your cronies have no shame, so no wonder there...

Pretty much! Took Norway two weeks to strip a former PM of diplomatic immunity and charge him for gross corruption after the latest Epstein file drop. So it's not like it's HARD to do these things.

There should be. But those who are still sane and work in government now should start collecting records. Because the chimneys will be smoking with the burning of records when this administration ends, in an attempt to escape justice.

The United States, at least as it was once understood to stand for anything meaningful, is dead. What remains is rot and corruption. I will miss what it was, all the more because I cannot stomach what it has become.

Someone being shot IS graphic media. Even if you don't actually see the blood spurting. It's not censorship. It's a safeguard requiring active choice to view content that is disturbing. Censorship would be not allowing it to be seen at all.

Absolver @absolver.bsky.localecho.net · 31/12/2025
Well, two things. First, Grok is refusing to do the image work because it is considered adult content, not because it can't 'read' the image. You're also doing image to image work, which isn't the same as making generative AIs unable to derive art style from images.

Is the last part of the sentence necessary? America is failing, that is honestly enough.

Absolver @absolver.bsky.localecho.net · 19/11/2025
I'll be honest. At this point I don't think it can be saved. Not in the form it currently is. The axe has been wielded too wildly, and too much road has been paved to enable even more shifting of wealth. The restructuring can't just be a presidency. It has to be systemic.

Getting a warrant involves a judge. The judge will ask "What reason do you have to demand access", and most of them will fail to provide a legally sound reason. Because they HAVE no legal reason to demand access to your phone.

It absolutely can. Thermal runaway can easily happen due to a short. And if you bend the hell out of a phone the wrong way? Yes, you most certainly can cause a short that could overheat the battery fast enough to start a thermal runaway.

That's not how GDPR requests work. You get *your* data. As for third party processing - Bluesky is a federation service. Any third party can connect to the federation stream and view all the content you post, in real time. This is turning feathers into chickens.

Are you going to wake up and do something soon, Americans? Or are you going to ignore the blaring alarms right up to the point of no return? Because if you can't see the cliff you're heading for by now, you are being willfully ignorant. Do something. Act. Because you are running out of time.

Like all insidious things, it crept out of the darkness, slowly. Back in the 80s, we were shining lights in search of them to root them out still. Being fascist was asking for a kicking. But when you drive them into hiding, all they're doing is waiting for a chance to slip back out into the open.

Really? You are going to point your finger at the people who already have served, and done their part, and ask why THEY aren't acting? Sure. Keep pushing the responsibility onto other people. That is how you got where you are in the first place. The buck stops with YOU now. Fucking act like it.

They won't do with you as they please. They will keep stretching the rubber band until it breaks, and their nation crumbles around them. They might at some point TRY. But that will be as much an end to it as the collapse from inside. Canada is made of stronger stuff than that.
