I don’t care if anyone else uses it or not. I do care when it’s implied that I’m crazy for saying AI is useful when I used it to build an entirely new data analytics product in 5 months just because someone else couldn’t figure out how to get a number into a PowerPoint.

Futzing around with where your data lives isn’t the biggest selling point to me. I like that I can try out different apps for the same platform. I’m using the @mu.social app right now to read Bluesky and write this post. I like its features more than the Bluesky app. And I get a cat.

And all of that data lives in your own personal data repository. Bluesky hosts your data, and mine, but they don’t own it. You can choose to have someone else store your data, or you could store it on your own hard drive if you’re knowledgeable enough.

Imagine if all of the data you had scattered across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Goodreads, Letterboxd, etc wasn’t stuck with those companies. Instead you could choose to take your social graph, reading list, resume, etc to a different site with no set up. Thats the Atmosphere.

There’s a funny thing happening where virulently anti-AI folks assume AI takes zero thought to use, so when they are told to use it, they apply zero thought to their own use. Obviously, this makes the output of their AI use very bad, which reinforces their belief that AI is useless.

When I got a meeting to give feedback on the communities prototypes, I was a little baffled/alarmed at how little feeds and feed building were being incorporated into the design. As if the posts people want to see will just naturally bubble up from communities.
