How do you set a high bar in carbon removal? For Cowboy Clean Fuels, it starts with being your own toughest critic. “We need to convince ourselves before we can convince anyone else.” More in Removed & Proved: www.absoluteclimate.com/blog-posts/a...

San Francisco Climate Week is a good moment to step back from the day-to-day and actually compare notes with others working in this space. Our CEO & Co-Founder, Peter Minor, will be speaking on two panels, one on carbon removal standards and another on powering AI with low-carbon infrastructure.

Not all reversal risks behave the same way. We shouldn’t treat them like they do. Read how Absolute Climate is approaching it: www.linkedin.com/pulse/implem...

Implementing a fit-for-purpose approach for managing reversal risks
By: Grant Faber Reversals and Reversal Risks Carbon markets depend on a simple promise: when carbon dioxide (CO2) is stored, it stays stored. But storage is never zero-risk.

We’ve released ACS v2.1, the latest update to the Absolute Carbon Standard. As carbon mitigation markets grow, the rules behind mitigation claims are becoming just as important as the technologies themselves. ACS was designed to help define those rules.

Carbon removal is moving beyond early curiosity and into real investment. That was a clear takeaway from #CarbonRemovalDay in Ottawa last week, where we hosted “Setting the Standard,” a breakfast with leaders from industry and government on building national standards for CDR.

Emissions are often not reduced because of market structure, not technical limits. Procurement. Geography. Financing. We’re expanding Absolute Climate’s certification framework to include Environmental Attribute Certificates for low-carbon products.

Carbon markets only work if claims match atmospheric outcomes. In Impact Alpha, Absolute Climate co-founder and CEO Peter Minor explains why confusing emissions reductions with carbon removals undermines market credibility. “The difference between a reduction and a removal is not a technicality.”

As COP30 kicks off in Belém, carbon markets are under the spotlight. Too often, credits have replaced real emissions cuts instead of reinforcing them.

What does it take to scale carbon removal? In a new piece with Nick van Osdol, our co-founders argue that permanence, MRV, and additionality are not hurdles. They’re what make gigatonne-scale removal possible. www.keepcool.co/p/how-to-sto...

How to stop undermining gigatonne scale carbon removal
Carbon removal won’t reach gigatonne scale by cutting corners. Standards like permanence and MRV are what unlock trust, investment, and lasting impact.

How carbon is removed is important, but how it’s tracked matters too. Measured removals use sensors & provide greater certainty. Modeled removals rely on estimates and struggle to catch reversals. Want higher confidence? Choose measured over modeled. What’s your quality check before buying?

Not all carbon removal credits are created equal. Before you buy, ask: Does this credit actually deliver a negative emission? Some remove CO₂ but fall short of net-negativity. If your claims rely on it, make sure your credits are fit for that use. What questions are you asking before you buy?

The Absolute Carbon Standard (ACS) is here—and it’s open for public comment! 🎉 Why does CDR need a new standard? Today’s carbon market lacks standardization and independence. Credits are sold as if interchangeable, but projects are evaluated using inconsistent baselines, scopes, and criteria.
