Avoid these 6 nonfiction writing mistakes and write your book faster! And, TBH, some of these mistakes are good problems to have... like having too much to say for one book. Read more at my Substack, Inside the Inkhorn. You know where the link is. 😉

Nonfiction authors! Are you writing your first chapters before you've really determined who your book is for? Make sure to define your target reader before you start drafting. Why? Read my article on Inside the Inkhorn. inkhorn.substack.com/p/your-ideal-nonfiction-reader

Villains are having a moment right now. For this blog post on writing villains, I pull from fiction and real life in this time of bro-llionaires and broligarchs. Read on my website or at Inside the Inkhorn on Substack. More below!

If new authors figured out their POV character before they wrote a scene, I swear they'd be able to avoid so many other common writing pitfalls. Check out how in my new post on Inside the Inkhorn.

Like AOC suggested, I'm leaning into the things that I do well, and that's writing and educating. Right now, I'm focusing on a series of blog posts that address some of the biggest structural issues I see in draft manuscripts. 1/

There really is nothing like making my little social media carousels about writing while a South African billionaire/tech-douche takes over the US government and steals all of our financial information.

h/t @destinysugarbuns.bsky.social By saying that high-risk people can just "stay home" or that they'll "fall by the wayside" or that "I'm over covid," we become vulnerable to eugenicist thinking. High-risk, disabled, and chronically-ill people deserve access to public spaces and community too. 1/
Some people are confused why every "what can I do to stop fascism" conversation has suggestions to mask up N95s. In my opinion the confusion comes from underestimating the endgoal of the people we collectively just handed state power. Genocidal intent isn't always expressed via death march. Sometimes it's a statement made on TV that if you live in a blue state they'll let the fires take you or a gesture paying tribute to eugenicists. Resistance is protecting the people marked for death.

This right here. If you're not wearing a mask in public because you're worried you might "look weird," or "no one else is doing it" or (my favorite /s) "it's not required," what else will you not do if sh*t really hits the fan? 1/
Screenshot from Threads. User destiny_sugarbuns: You can wear a mask in public to show that you're willing to make small sacrifices to protect vulnerable people. Resistance doesn't have to be one big gesture, sometimes it's a choice to not go along with the erasure of reality, a willingness to quietly salt vibes in order to protect the lives of the people considered expendable.

User rspaterson: Everybody says "don't wait until book burnings and camps", "stay aware and don't let them gaslight you", "do something!" But what can I do? I'm genuinely asking, what can I do to help?
