"The Lubyanka Gambit is a classic work investigating the darkest side of chess history in the Soviet Union...It describes the careers and life stories of Soviet chess composers, players and famous amateurs who were repressed by the Soviet authorities, ending up either executed or sent to the Gulag."

"In Open Socrates, philosopher Agnes Callard recovers the radical move at the center of Socrates' thought, and shows why it is still the way to a good life... (we need) to ask ourselves the most important questions--about how we should live, and how we might change."

If you can't distinguish between truth and lies, you can't distinguish between right and wrong. "And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want."Hannah Arendt

"In 1964, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer demonstrated his unparalleled skill by playing 50 opponents simultaneously in a remarkable exhibition. At just 21 years old, Fischer took on a mix of grandmasters, club players, and amateurs... at the Manhattan Chess Club."

"This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. And such a people...without knowing and willing it, are completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want." ~Hannah Arendt

"“The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs, fallout...There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men...they can kill and destroy. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.” ~Rod Serling
