This article does not minimise vigilante security contributions; rather it highlights the fluidity of conflict in the Lake Chad region, a dynamic environment where deeply antagonistic relationships between vigilantes and insurgents coexist with instances of tactical collusion.

Pleased to share my new African Security article: Parallels between vigilantes and Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin. Here I argue both are home-grown products of state weakness, sharing social worlds which explains vigilante's effectiveness and associated risks.
