NEW: Americans are pessimistic about the future. But which actors do they think are having the worst impact on the economy/society? Voters find the most harmful actors to be: 1) Billionaires 2) Corporate landlords 3) Sports gambling 4) Artificial intelligence 5) Cryptocurrency

Scatter plot titled "Billionaires and Corporate Landlords Are Seen as Most Harmful to Society and Economy." X-axis shows economic impact (3.0-5.5), y-axis shows societal impact (3.0-5.5), on a 1-7 scale where 4 is neutral. 40 numbered dots, colored dark red-brown (negative) to green (positive), follow a diagonal line showing economic and societal ratings are closely correlated. Most negative, in a shaded pink zone below 4 on both axes: Billionaires and Corporate landlords (~3.15-3.2), followed by Sports gambling, AI companies, Cryptocurrency, Payday loan companies, both major political parties, Social media companies, For-profit universities, and Cable news networks. Most positive, in a shaded green zone: Libraries and Small businesses (~5.0-5.3), followed by Hospitals, Charitable organizations, Small regional banks, and Churches. Most of the 40 actors fall between 4.0-5.0 on both axes. A numbered legend of all 40 actors accompanies the chart.

Hi Bluesky! Glad to be here. In the wake of the election, it's disheartening to see some Democrats throw the transgender community under the bus. The data shows that's the wrong approach — voters actually want the government to be less involved in regulating transgender people's lives.
Bar chart of polling data from Data For Progress.
Title: Voters Reject Candidates Who Support Anti-Trans Legislation.
Description: Which one of the following candidates are you most likely to vote for?
Response Options:
A) A candidate who says that the government should stay out of people's private lives and that there is too much legislation targeting a small minority of the population
B) Don't know
C) A candidate who says that we need new laws that restrict access to transgender health care and keep "biological boys" out of girls' sports
All likely voters — 57% chose A, 9% chose B, 34% chose C
Democrat — 79% chose A, 7% chose B, 14% chose C
Independent / Third party — 54% chose A, 12% chose B, 33% chose C
Republican — 33% chose A, 9% chose B, 58% chose C

October 18–21, 2024 survey of 1,216 likely voters.
