I returned to Syria and saw something remarkable: women are leading the country's recovery. From rebuilding livelihoods to supporting communities, their resilience is shaping Syria's future. I wrote about the women I met and the lessons they left with me: www.moretoherstory.com/stories/syri...

Despite unimaginable challenges, what I saw throughout Syria and Lebanon was resilience, care, community, and generosity. The international community should match that determination with the resources and commitment these communities deserve. #TheFutureIsEqual

The people I met were clear: recovery doesn't happen because the world declares a crisis over. Recovery requires investment, partnership, and sustained support for communities rebuilding their futures.

I also heard about the devastating impact of aid cuts. Women's rights organizations and local groups described losing major funding streams overnight, forcing difficult decisions at a time when communities need support more than ever.

One reality stayed with me: conflict has become normalized. The constant hum of drones overhead. The endless security notifications. Families forced to make life-altering decisions based on the latest military escalation.

In Lebanon, I met families who have been displaced multiple times. I visited schools serving as shelters, where community leaders, educators, and local organizations are doing everything they can to provide safety and dignity for families whose lives have been repeatedly disrupted.

At the same time, I saw something powerful: hope. People spoke about rebuilding businesses, restoring communities, and creating a different future for their children. The sense of possibility today is markedly different from what I witnessed during previous visits.

In Syria, I met women who had returned home after years of displacement. They came back with hope, but also to damaged homes, limited services, few job opportunities, and communities still trying to recover from years of conflict.

I just returned from Syria and Lebanon. It's hard to find words to describe what I saw and heard from communities rebuilding their lives amid conflict, displacement, and uncertainty. But one thing is clear: the headlines do not capture the reality that people live every day. 🧵

The human toll is already devastating: civilians, including children, are among the casualties. Striking amid reported diplomatic progress is not a strategy; it’s the sabotage of diplomacy. We need restraint, accountability, and an urgent return to negotiations.

This weekend’s escalation in the Middle East is a reckless breach of international law with consequences far beyond the region. The US and Israel’s attacks on Iran undermine the rules‑based order, and the silence of many Western leaders at this moment is deeply alarming.
