✨ Update: this paper is now in press at Cognition! Children's partisanship disappears (a) when responses are private and (b) when accuracy is incentivized, suggesting that agreement w/ the ingroup functions as a public signal of group support. Link: drive.google.com/file/d/1-Qvu... Thread below 👇

Now out in Child Dev: "If moms do it, it can't be that important: Children's reasoning about gender disparities in domestic work" academic.oup.com/chidev/advan... Kids' awareness that moms do most housework + their intrinsic explanations for this jointly predict their devaluing domestic work 🧵

New paper with @mohitmukherji.bsky.social, Mona Lebrun, and @marjorierhodes.bsky.social @JEP:G! Did you ever wonder whether saying things like “boys can wear dresses too” is effective at reducing stereotypical inferences? We find that they’re probably not—check out more here: doi.org/10.1037/xge0...

Loved collaborating on this paper with Eddie, Lena, and Andrei! We find that children from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds are stereotyped as more hardworking 💪 than intelligent 🧠. A "striver" label may seem positive, but it can unfairly gatekeep opportunities meant for the "gifted." 🧵⬇️

Excited that our work on the Brilliance-Belonging Model will be out soon in Ed Psych Review! 🎉 This model aims to explain why educational disparities are often greater in fields where brilliance is seen as necessary for success. Details in Christina's thread below. Paper here: tinyurl.com/5c4aez9w

My symposium will explore children's understanding of social hierarchy. How do children think status is earned? What does it mean to be high status? When should power be transferred? Speakers include @aashnap.bsky.social, @katiemcauliffe.bsky.social, and Mack Briscoe! Come Saturday afternoon!
