It’s been an overwhelming beginning to 2025. There are still many changes, rebuilding, and fights ahead of us. Today we saw a rainbow in the mountains, and it was helpful for morale. 😌

A step away from all the goings on events… today I experimented with “shrink to fit denim” for the first time. It meant I needed to wear these soaking wet denim pants all day until they dried… 😐 why have I volunteered for more uncomfort in these times??!

The recent #EatonFire #Pasadena #Altadena air quality warnings suggesting masks remind me my phone face recognition was set up during pandemic. I’m able to unlock looking like this!

Over 200 JPLers have lost everything in the LA fires. Every single project I work on includes at least one, most multiple. Everyone at JPL is affected, everyone is utterly heartbroken for our community. Ways you can help: giving.caltech.edu/areas-to-sup...

Although first responders were successful in keeping the fire from JPL, over 150 JPLers have lost their homes. Here’s link to the Caltech/JPL disaster relief fund if you’re so inclined: caltech.imodules.com/controls/ema... Thanks for your support of our JPL family.

I’ve been living and working in the area for 16 years. Up until now, I believed one of my life goals was to work and save up money to afford a house in Altadena. It was the affordable community in the communities around my work. I’ll need to reassess my future…

Black families settled in the Altadena during the Great Migration starting in the 1930s. The community formed in parts of Altadena exempt from redlining policies, where they have owned homes for generations. via @kcrw.com

Altadena’s historic Black community is determined to rebuild

The Eaton Fire has devastated communities throughout Altadena, including many Black homeowners who have been there for generations.

I am safe during these devastating LA area fires: specifically the #EatonFire. In this image you can see the fire impacted area highlighted in red, my workplace NASA JPL circled in green & the proximate area where I live circled in blue. I was fortunate to not be in the evacuation zone
