I have a lot of respect for Wired's reporting but this is wrong.
No one who worked on this report is from Census CES.
@wired.com should correct their error or provide more detail because this element of the story is wrong and vague.
Census Bureau sources who spoke to WIRED could not say what prompted the report. Records reviewed by WIRED, though, show it originated at the Center for Economic Studies, a division within the Census Bureau that uses confidential data to conduct research.
