Unironically love playing Jenga with our node dependencies and seeing which things can update without the whole tower toppling over. Nice to have a brain break while CI runs or while I wait to see the results of something.

Having finished this: 5/5 stars, cannot wait for book three, those kids are such a wonderful bunch and the power progression being as driven as it is by the acts of heroic character makes it all come together gloriously. What a gift it is to have so many awesome stories to read.

Life is great and I'm a sweaty mess and I'm a girl who's spending the night getting spun around the dance floor.

I am dealing with a stressful thing that I cannot actually hasten the resolution of and I don't want to pull the trigger on the changes I have queued to our monitoring till tomorrow so I will de-stress by going to my safe space (working on updating our React Native version) (no I'm not joking)

So in the Python AtProto SDK, atproto.blue/models/app/b... states that getProfile doesn't require auth, but I'm getting an "Authentication Required" error when trying to use it unauthenticated. What's up with that?

atproto.blue

app.bsky.actor.getProfile

The list of authors here includes a bunch of people whom I wanna grow up to write as well as. And the ones I haven't read, well, it's made my TBR list grow *even taller*. TBR Stack of Damocles istfg.

Do you like cozy fantasy, #booksky? HearthCon is coming up on October 3rd & 4th! There are a lot of awesome panelists talking much coziness, and indeed I'm going to be on the Cozy Fantasy Over The Rainbow panel (🌈📚) at 6PM PDT on Sunday. I love so many of these books, and it's gonna be a great time!

I want you to think about the kids in your life. Maybe those kids are 8. Maybe they are 32. Do they know enough about snails? Hard to imagine anyone truly knowing *enough* about snails. Help those kids learn snailhood. Get them a Snail Facts advent calendar. SquidFacts.net.

An 11x14 inch poster featuring snails, slugs, nudibranchs, and other snails! There are 24 yellow-green snail shells that you can scratch off. There's a leaf sheep and sea bunny and sea angel and fire snail and banana slug and mystery snail and ramshorn snail and candy cane snail

Oddly, I don't actually lack for babysitters. I lack for time, and I can't reasonably reallocate away from the very small amount of time I spend playing with my daughter. Alas that nothing is a free action!

Cinderella's Prince is unbelievable, she's very good too, I just... this cast is really good! And the costuming is on point, the choreography is great, the tech is solid, the byplay between Jack's mom and the harp was unexpected and perfect... what a great time.

Okay rich friends employed with companies that do employer matching: Please help me raise $7k to support @scarleteen.com's fall fundraiser. We're expecting 7 million visitors this year (up from 5 million!) in a climate where access to good sex ed, esp. for LGBTQIA+ young people, is dwindling.

Daggerbound was great, I love Vernon so very much. My wife and I both devoured it. I've been keeping mostly to working through the TBR stack of authors I'm friends with. It's a big stack but it's not *as* big, y'know? But it sure did get bigger at litRPGCon!

Aaron Sofaer ✍️🏳️‍⚧️ @aaronsofaer.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

I've got Mana Mirror on my TBR, but I haven't yet gotten around to it. Bee Dungeon is on my comps list for one of my WIPs. Right now I'm working my way through Chaos & Capybaras. Absolutely delightful. Has variant metrology that is fully integrated into the setting! I always love that.

I already wrote a story in which the MC is isekai'd straight into a first-adventure support party perfectly designed for his personal growth and survival and thriving, which involved a leader who's a thousand-year-old monk badass, but I realized this morning that there's even better A graul.

Drum major competitions: for when you want to wear a skirt and twirl a baton but still present masc (most of them; there was a woman in the finals). Complete with knee highs and high steps & kicks. I say this with all love, more men should wear skirts and twirl batons.

🫠 Hey at least next year is going to be somewhat less busy in terms of my work, and I can't be Parliamentarian again because this is my second consecutive term...

I got drafted into being Parliamentarian because I showed up to an Association Meeting and knew literally anything about Roberts Rules of Order. Now I'm working on getting our bylaws updated and comparing notes about afterschool programs and staring down the barrel of a potential "promotion"...
