iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Watching subscription revenue slowly drop is rough. Makes me wonder if just going to a freemium one time purchase would actually be better in some cases for the Apple Home market.

Am I building a way to have reproducible HomeKit setups in VMs for testing… yes. Should I have to, no. So convoluted to do anything with this framework reliably for testing purposes.

Tiny Apple Pencil. Hoping it will work with the Duo.

Decided on a Macbook Pro to buy… just can't stomach the price easily even if I use the education store in NZ.

Release management via Slack is so nice. Have a build submitted via CI, then via Slack I can submit.

Making it easier to remember to switch back to your default App Store region after viewing another country’s storefront.

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 15/09/2026

Rough prototype of a way to easily return to your home App Store region. Sadly I can’t actually read where you are other than your last link tap in Store Switch.

000

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 15/09/2026

Playing with a redesign of Store Switch. Completely unnecessary to do. It makes me no revenue and it probably is better served as a simple list app in reality. This is just fun.

Wish I could. Only Apple devices have access to HomeKit. In theory, if you went and paired everything via Home Assistants HomeKit setup, you could log via HA.

Turns out that the iPhone Duo is 0.3mm thinner than an original iPhone when closed. 11.3mm vs 11.6mm.

Installed Ubuntu onto a 2014 Mac mini to use as a runner on GitHub actions for small coordination jobs alongside my M2 mini. Cool to see the tooling out there now.

Casual $4199 NZD for the Duo. 😭

010

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 03/09/2026

$30 between a MBP with a M5 Pro and a Mac Studio with M5 Max. Both with 64GB/1TB. Both unbinned processors. 🤔

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 03/09/2026

Trying to price out a new Mac is just disheartening with the sheer cost of everything now.

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 02/09/2026

Built another fun project using Codex. Turning my Mac mini into a web app host using Apple Containers. Now I can simply push to GitHub and it'll automatically deploy the changes for my local web apps I've been working on. Even has built in Cloudflare tunnels for web hook needs.

Love our powerlines company. Get told on the phone that they will fix it. When the actual linesman turns up, they just disconnect our power. 💯

000

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 31/08/2026

Also the joy of arguing with the lines company that it is their line, not mine.

000

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 31/08/2026

The joys of security cameras. Being able to spot the exact second at 12:06am that your home powerlines ceramic connector broke. The connector that you didn’t notice being broke until just now.

That moment where your passport isn't where you left it last. Was a fun five minutes.

Must have missed them adding that.

Started on an new “old” app idea again. Very rough. Needing something to help manage home maintenance tasks and handle recurrence after completion not just every time period.

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 31/07/2026

If there was one company I would join for two weeks to try and fix an issue, it’d be Philips Hue. Why their bridged devices don’t return a serial number is beyond me.

I'll have to try it, I think I hit sandboxing issues in the Catalyst side when I last tried.

Rabbit hole of the day: Using gRPC and SwiftNIO with a Unix-domain socket to share data realtime between a Catalyst and Mac app.

Happy with this flow. Need to get this into the full screen warning portions.

Circling back to an older app idea. Think it is finally getting somewhere.

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 02/07/2026

Two app releases today. HomePass 2.1 gains ability to filter new devices by home and hide bridged devices. HomeCam 2.7 has several fixes for the audio system.

Camera wall 2.0 is getting there. Need to reset the Logitech Circle 2 and find my Circle View. The D-Link Omna might also be dead. 🫡

Have to love devices that can pair to Matter and HomeKit and thus share serial numbers. Really confuses apps including my own.

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 19/06/2026

The loop of bringing things you learn at a work client back to your own apps is nice.

10 port Belkin one. One set of the five ports died.

010

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 18/06/2026

In unique problems that are only caused by myself. I just blew the fuse in a 10 port USB charger with too many HomeKit cameras.

130

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 16/06/2026

Reassembling the camera wall. Still have to find the other cameras scattered in my office.

020

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 14/06/2026

AI for quick testing tools is nice. I could have done this manually easily enough, or one prompt and waiting 5 minutes while I do other work. Now I know that Apple still only allows access to the single Home that your Apple TV is a part of.

010

Aaron Pearce @aaronpearce.com · 11/06/2026

It looks like HomeKit can now stream more than two cameras when remotely accessing as of iOS 27 and having your Home Hub on 27 as well.
