One of my favorite Old 97's lyrics: I remember the Alamo I don't recall who won They had swords, they had horses I hear we had mighty guns

Hadn't seen the interview and was going off their social media statements. I agree that Adam comes off cagey in the interview, like he doesn't want to answer any questions and just wants the whole thing over with.

Whenever I've seen a show there, in addition to the spiel about no electronics, just these strings, this bellows, this whistle, these cams, this crank, etc, they've always mentioned that Molly is one of two of a kind, the other being with Bliss Kolb.

Aaron @aarond42.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
They have? Molly (the bird automata) isn't, but Bliss Kolb, the Seattle-based artist who made it, made two and has its twin, and would be willing to part with it. So the store doesn't sell Molly but is willing to put people in touch with Bliss Kolb to arrange purchase of his.

As someone who has been to see nearly every performer they've had at that shop, I very much doubt it. They're all wonderful, generous people.

Have you ever thought about how the existence of places that offer bottomless fries implies that most fries have bottoms? I wonder which part the frybutt is.

I legitimately only saw the goat until the bird clicked for me. I can see either now, but my brain clicks back and forth. I can't see both at the same time.

I am absolutely an AI hater, recently quit my software engineering job rather than comply with a new, short-sighted and draconian AI mandate, and am in the process of maintaining my lifelong streak of not using LLMs for anything ever for any reason, but I respect that other people's thresholds vary.

I'm not a cosplayer, but I usually go hard for Halloween, sometimes including foamsmithing headwear and dyeing, painting, and 3D printing costume elements.
Me as John Wick with a shirt a bloodstained myself (barely visible) and a 3D-printed Continental CoinMe as John Wick, different angle, also showing off a 3D-printed and painted blood oath marker and my beard dyed black and cut in a Wickian way. Me as Razputin Aquato from Psychonauts, with an EVA foam aviator hat and a sweater I dyed and painted stripes on myselfThe Raz costume from the back, showing all my Psychonauts badges (purchased from Etsy, not homemade) on the messenger bag I painted a red stripe on.

I've been in since the moment I saw a cardboard backdrop for this at the theater I saw Spiderman in, even though (maybe because) it has the dumbest tagline. "There's blood in the water" sounds like a shark or piranha movie, not a mutiny movie. Unless this is secretly The Meg 3.
A cardboard backdrop advertising the Jason Statham movie Mutiny, from the director of "Plane," with the tagline "There's blood in the water." In theaters August 21st.

I really hope so. I've seen things get so much better, and I took that for a natural force, but it turns out a great many heroes spent generations working on it, and the speed of regression is giving me whiplash. My husband and I are both scared.

Sorta the opposite of how Edwin Arlington Robinson describes Lincoln in The Master: But little of us did he ask, And little did we ever do. And what appears if we review The season when we railed and chaffed? It is the face of one who knew That we were learning while we laughed.

I hate writing but love having written. Writing wrecks me every time, but once I've finished, having written a thing lasts a lot longer. My writing process consists mostly of ways to coerce myself into doing the writing.

My favorite part is the editor's notes
You had a controversy with an Israeli intelligence firm, right?
Yeah, right. Exactly. [Ronan Farrow reported in The New Yorker in 2017 that, while representing Harvey Weinstein, Boies hired Black Cube, an Israeli intelligence firm staffed by former Mossad officers. He instructed the company to spy on Weinstein’s accusers and reporters who were looking into Weinstein’s behavior, including reporters for another client of his, the New York Times.]
I don’t believe this war is being fought to protect Israel. I believe this war is being fought to protect the United States.
Were you at all worried by the reporting that seemed to show President Trump hadn’t really considered or even cared that Iran might block the Strait of Hormuz?
I have not entirely kept up on all the reports, but have they said that the Trump Administration didn’t consider the Iranian government were going to shut the strait?
The military brought it up as a possibility, and Trump waved it off and said it’ll be fine.
I think that if we thought that they were not going to close the strait I believe that was a reflection, had to be a reflection, of not appreciating how far Iran’s military capacity had developed. [The Wall Street Journal reported that after being warned about the war’s risk to global oil prices Trump assured his advisers that the American military could handle it.]

Rereading The Subtle Knife, and this passage is unfortunately pertinent.
But suddenly out of nowhere there came the Specters, and we've been haunted ever since. You've seen what they do. Now imagine what it is to live in a world with Specters in it How can we prosper, when we can't rely on anything continuing as it is? At any moment a father might be taken, or a mother, and the family fall apart; a merchant might be taken, and his enterprise fail, and all his clerks and factors lose their employment; and how can lovers trust their vows? All the trust and all the virtue fell out of our world when the Specters came."

Obvious winner for me is bananas, which taste and smell foul. Some people put them in smoothies and claim they're just for texture and that you can't taste them, and those people are wrong and bad and should feel bad. Somehow, I'm cool with plantains, though.

The most cringeworthy sentence in the article, for me, is the one highlighted here. Though the bottom paragraph in the screenshot is incredibly irony-deficient too. Pretty sure it's a troll piece, what with "sipping margaritas with KAG."
But I missed it, males missed it, and conservatives missed it. The anger festered during the Biden years, turned into rage with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. And the reelection of Donald Trump, King of the Alphas? Like hitting the nucleus of Uranium-235 with a neuron.

And Ground Zero, at the moment, is Minneapolis.

It’s fair to ask how these women would react if Trump had embraced the criminal illegal immigrants, the rapists, and sex traffickers. If he’d been the one sipping margaritas with Kilmar Abrego Garcia. One suspects they’d be screaming just as loud at Trump for increasing their peril because of his “hatred of women.”

Take this for what you will, but two bits of feedback on the after: 1. "Personally, I think" aren't needed. In a first person narrative, readers know unattributed thoughts belong to the narrator. Maybe "Revolutionary meetings would probably go better" &c 1/2

I like Elizabeth McCracken's advice from A Long Game for this: include a couple "had"s, then switch to past tense. Eg: Lucy had arrived yesterday, ... . I had planned to spend the night with her. Instead, I spent the evening drinking bad rum and spitting nails, ...
