Great to see What Came First? by Kit Frost & @aaroncushley.bsky.social now out with Red Shed @harpercollins.bsky.social. I was the historical consultant for the pages on sport, games, and theme parks. #historyforchildren
The front cover of a book called What Came First? The title appears in large red letters, and it's surrounded by drawings including a dinosaur, a horse-drawn chariot, a biplane, and various people and animals.

This trend of “sketchbook” accounts that show pretty and thought about sketchbooks is worrying because sketchbooks aren’t meant to be pretty, they aren’t meant to be finished, they’re moments of creativity, problem solving and a calendar of your journey. Stop trying to make everything polished.

Thanks Aishwarya. I started with a fluorescent wash underneath and acrylic with watercolour crayons for some finer bits. The caran d’ache ones are great.

Some days the inspiration comes, others you’re sitting with nothing but a sharp pencil.

Here’s the thing. These AI trends suck because you can not be interested in environmental issues but when you use these trends you’re actively contributing to the harmful effects a generated image causes. So here’s an image made by me to filter out the garbage
Drawn image of packaged “me” with everything that comes with it ie switch console, dog, shoes, sketchbook, tote bag, bag pack and iPad

Question for any authors? If you were called in for a school visit would you tell a child that chose one of your books that it was not “their level”? I’m sorry I thought authors were supposed to encourage reading to everyone?
