Amid the recent and upcoming American 250 festivities, Jennifer DeLapp-Birkett takes us through the history of Copland birthday celebrations.

The bass-baritone William Warfield and composer Aaron Copland were almost a generation apart but developed a decades-long relationship through *Old American Songs*.

Denise Von Glahn reflects on the early days of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and Copland's career one hundred years after he was first awarded a fellowship.

1941 and 1942 were exceptionally eventful for Copland and his country. The U.S. entered World War II while the 41-year-old composer was entering the height of his career.

With nearly 100 years of performance history to consider, the *Piano Concerto*'s reputation cannot be summed up in a single statement.

Prompted by the recent loss of former President Jimmy Carter, Jennifer DeLapp-Birkett reflects on the connections between the Carters, Copland, and his music.
