I hope the irony isn’t lost here that the same people who are trying to say rainbow crosswalks are against state code and thus “less safe” also have zero interest when it comes to making pedestrian safety improvements in town.
Screenshot of a Facebook comment:

Anonymous participant 338
That is a highly trafficked area and the rainbow crosswalk was not bright enough for people to see especially as night, you need the bigger white lines to reflect to make it visible for motorists! Crosswalks and street lines are usually repainted every few years. So those who are complaining Google what you are complaining about first. (Screen shot attached from Google). That face people care more about a rainbow crosswalk than peoples safety is crazy! And yes I commented as anonymous as I don't need people complaining over such nonsense looking at my profile.
Most municipalities in Massachusetts repaint crosswalks annually, though high-traffic urban areas, school zones, and main commercial districts are often refreshed twice a year or as needed due to winter weather and snowplowScreenshot of a Facebook comment:

Marty Cohan
Maybe because road markings are standardized in the uniform traffic control manual and political statements are not on the standards and make enforcement an issue when someone gets hit in the crosswalk that doesn't conform to standards.

The “ambient noise of buildings” is a common white noise track option so I get this.
Screenshot of article:

Gina Frey, who said she has lived in the potential 40R District for most of her time in town, noted the "ambient noise of buildings."
"I noticed over time the neighborhood is louder, not just neighbor sounds but the ambient noise that comes from more density in buildings and spaces," Frey said.

Swampscott did the whole “let me rename this body of water for no reason at all” thing before Trump. swampscotttides.org/featured/swa...
In the 1902 brochure, Ainslie and Grabow rename Orient Street, calling it "Puritan Road," a full 13 years before the town of Swampscott adopted the name change at Town Meeting.
They experimented briefly in attempting to change the name of Nahant Bay to Swampscott Bay (see postcard caption at top), but the Lynn Daily Item wouldn't hear of it, so that name change didn't stick.

Legal advice is 👌 though.
Screenshot of a question and response from the America.gov website

Can the president set tariffs or is that illegal?
Congress holds the constitutional power to impose tariffs. The President may set or change tariffs only when a statute Congress passed allows it, and only under that law's conditions. It is not automatically illegal for a President to impose tariffs, and it is not unlimited.
Who has the power
• The Constitution gives Congress power to
"lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises" and to "regulate Commerce with foreign Nations."
Congressional Research Service
• The President has no inherent peacetime power to impose tariffs. Authority must come from Congress.
Sunreme Court 1 parnina Resnurces Ine 1Screenshot of a question and answer from the America.gov website:

Can the president force states to change how they do elections?
No. The President cannot unilaterally force states to change how they run elections.
Who sets election rules
• States have the main authority over "Times, Places and Manner" of congressional elections. Elections Clause, Art. 1, $ 47
• Congress may pass laws that make or change those rules for federal elections. Examples include the National Voter Registration Act 7 and the Help America Vote Act r.
• For presidential elections, each state legislature directs how electors are appointed.

Should have seen the denial of basic flock audit logs coming, but nice to get confirmation they never put a specific policy in place pertaining to the Lynn system they had access to. I suspect most police departments are a little fast and loose with policies around access to sensitive info.

RE: Audit records
Good afternoon,
The Swampscott Police Department does not have a Flock specific policy. Attached is our Automated license plate reader policy.
The department owns one ALPR system (cruiser mounted) however it has not functioned in approximately five years. Subsequently, it is not installed on anything currently and is in storage.
Regarding your Flock specific information request, under M.G.L. c.4 s.7(26)(f) materials pertaining to on-going and active investigations, it cannot be released.

The irony too of Swampscott knowing the historic fish house won’t survive climate change and not just being ok with tearing it down and making it an actually useful facility for the fishing industry like this one in Chatham certainly exemplifies how we view history here.

I have zero sympathy for people who can afford a >$4million house and this happens on the road in front of your house every minor rainfall event. I also think the town should start eyeing ways to take over any and all coastal properties so we can use them as public spaces.

This is always an interesting topic to me and why I’ve been mostly hands-off in pushing for housing for the Hawthorne location, because if the private course takes up 7% of Swampscott’s land, the FEMA flood risk zones apply to…well much more than that.

Not for Belsito in a million years. Not in this lifetime nor in the next. She belongs nowhere near the gears of power. She runs in DSA adjacent circles and exploits her Arab roots to push anti-Israel propaganda. Her exploitation for Free Palestine and the "No AIPAC money" is code for not taking any Jewish money.
And Bob Kraft's mission to support
Jewish causes over decades is applauded.
Meanwhile Belsito's BS leads to whack jobs showing up at Porch fest with a bullhorn to taunt Dan Koh? The hijacking of the far left by the Free Palestine crowd is a danger to the entirety of the Anti trump movement. To me Belsito, is the Left's version of Q-Anon.

Chat, is it bad that this street (and a number of others in Swampscott) always flood when there is moderate (0.1 - 0.3”/hr) rain? The photos were taken about 1.5 hours after the rain stopped Maybe we need infrastructure improvements? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ironically, the most dense area of Swampscott is Vinnin Square, not near the train station and we don’t have any good ways to get between the two besides a very uncomfortable >1.5 mile walk, a very infrequent bus (most freq is every 45m) that doesn’t even drop you at the station, or driving.
Screenshot of a map showing walking directions from a collection of multifamily buildings in Vinnin square to the commuter rail station which is a 34 minute walk (1.6 miles)Screenshot showing bus directions from multifamily housing in Vinnin square to the commuter rail station which is 15 minutes. 11 of which are walking.

Recently, a Swampscott Select Board member said they were concerned about the amount/pace of growth near the commuter rail station and I keep coming back to this picture I took showing how much more Lynn has developed in walking distance to our station than we have.
A drone shot from out over the ocean looking landward. The border of Lynn and Swampscott is down the middle drawn in. Just past the Swampscott border a purple circle indicates where the commuter rail is. On the Lynn side there is clearly much denser development that drops off dramatically on the Swampscott side.

The worst part about AI slop is that the people farthest removed from reality will use it to justify their own reality. The sad part is that this is pretty much standard NIMBYism these days, it’s just a fear of cars other than your own.

Maura, while you're in Gloucester today, take a drive around.
Look at our roads. Look at the parking. Look at our centuries-old neighborhoods.
You already signed ADUs by right. Now you're asking these same neighborhoods to go from single-family to two-family, with an ADU by right.
Maura, Dru ask yourselves: how much more density can this infrastructure actually handle?

It's a little depressing that when the DOT re-did this entire length of Rt. 1 for both traffic and pedestrian improvements, the pedestrian "improvements" seem to be "we timed the lights at one spot to have a pedestrian only crossing period"...thank you...but...may we have just a little more?

They want to claim the land they have never paid taxes on. Honestly this is similar to the claims rail trail abutters have made over the past few years too.

She said the document has raised new questions about property boundaries and whether it affects the rights established by the court more than four decades ago.
"It's unclear from the document where the dividing line is, but they made this claim," Bandrowicz said. "It gets even more
complicated because apparently they're not paying taxes on part of the property they claim they have under the same agreement."

Last week(?) the Planning Board reviewed the current draft proposal for a new 40R Smart Growth district around Swampscott’s MBTA station. I’m sure it will go through some iteration, but it’s a decent start. Note that they are trying very hard to not include too many existing SFHs here.
Screenshot from the presentation showing a map of Swampscott zoomed into the MBTA commuter rail station area. The highlighted zone sits next to the MBTA 3A zone which runs along Essex st from the high school towards the train station. The proposed zone encompasses both sides of the tracks running to the Lynn line. It’s not terribly big. Screenshot of a proposed timeline to get this zoning passed. This real estate agent (what’s with them all trying to be influencers?) made a video which had a joke about the new bike lane on the Lynnway and I guess got so much criticism he posted a follow-up video saying he actually likes bike lanes but was just trying to point out Lynn’s bad priorities.
Screenshot of an Instagram video where a guy is sitting in his car, recording himself talking to random strangers on the internet. Totally normal behavior in 2026 sadly.

marcioreboston Apparently questioning $30 million makes you anti bike *
Believe it or not, 1 own a bike. I ride a bike. Bikes are great!
What I actually said: Lynn spent $30 million on bike lanes while our public schools are graded a C, our roads are falling apart, and residents don't feel safe.
This was never about bikes. It's about whether that was the best use of $30 million for the city of Lynn! For the people of Lynn! Make it make sense. I'm listening.

I consider this a little coup that I got language into the Master Plan that tells Swampscott that we need to actually define what “neighborhood character” is before using it as an excuse to not build things.
Screenshot from article. Second paragraph highlighted by me:

One challenge identified in the Master Plan is balancing fiscal needs with residents' concerns about preserving the town's character. Swampscott has 13 base zones and nine overlay districts.

The Master Plan suggests Swampscott needs to define town and neighborhood character while enabling diverse housing, managing CPA and zoning recodification for clarity and equity. There is also the need for green infrastructure for stormwater management and flood resilience.

Photograph of a couple of metal signs tacked to an electrical pole. The top one is an artistic rendering of the tower that sits atop a local park and the bottom one invites you to explore it:

EXPLORE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Did you know?
Miantonomi Park is 30 acres and has 1.5 miles of trails.

I guess I see why the wanted to make their “fuck those kids on bikes they were asking for it” comment anonymous….
Screenshot of a Facebook post:

Hi all, can we please educate our kids on how to drive their bikes around here. Was on my way home passing parsons and 5-6 boys maybe around 12-13
came out of nowhere and went flying into the street. Didn't look or anything. Almost caused an accident with myself and 2 other cars and definitely didn't look before crossing walker either, everyone slammed their brakes onScreenshot of a comment on the previous Facebook post:

The only person I'll have sympathy for when a kid gets hit and killed is the driver. If parents don't care about the kids safety why should I?

An example of how the news just regurgitates police reports without applying a critical lens to them. The police report provided zero details on whether the child was actually in danger/harmed, but prints the police’s own back patting about how good of a job they did.
Screenshot of part of the article:

It's unclear if the car had been running, or how long the child was left inside the vehicle. Further details about the child, including their age and whose custody they were being released to, were not provided.
Police said Lopez Veloez was arrested without incident after officers located him and identified him
as the car owner.
The Northborough Police Department recognized the quick actions of the public safety personnel and the bystander who called 911.

Yeah, “shattered its 20-year turnout”numbers does not indicate a suppression of votes (and only those that would have voted no) due to parking.
Screenshot of a FB post from the Marblehead Independent with a bar chart showing turnout yesterday as 47.5% and the closest turnout to that historically was a few years ago at 40.5%. The average is around 23%.

There was a pretty significant turnout yesterday in Marblehead (certainly much higher than for town meetings), but if you lose, then suddenly it’s not that the majority doesn’t agree with you…it’s something else.

I would like to know how many people tried to vote at the high school but gave up due to no parking - this IMO had an impact on voter turnout - middle class
-start packing your bags - you will, without a doubt, be taxed out of your homes.

I find it cruel that these people that continuously fight against both new taxes and new growth have the gall to pretend they want to help those struggling with affordability and blame it on “reckless spending”. The math doesn’t math when you look at the numbers.
Screenshot from previously linked article:

Better Way
Meanwhile, John DiPiano, spokesman for the anti-override group Better Way Marblehead, wrote the following on social media Tuesday night.
"With the passage of the override, there is no reason for Better Way Marblehead to continue to seek a special town meeting.
Better Way Marblehead remains very concerned that the ramifications of this override will not be fully recognized by taxpayers for a few years and will negatively impact Marblehead residents who may already struggle with affordability. Moreover, committee members are also concerned that this outcome will further incentivize reckless spending."

I think this conspiracy theory is my favorite: that the UN/NWO (and yeah, that gets to antisemitism real fast) is going to start forcing people to live in 15-minute cities and only be able to get around via walking, biking, or bus, oh and no nuclear families.

Chances are sadly high that in the next week there will be a post in this group criticizing the Lynnway Multi-Modal project and asking for people to rally against it because it will “slow drivers down”.
Screenshot of a Swampscott Facebook group post:

Stay away from the Lynnway.
Someone else got killed crossing it. Body is still there.

Another pedestrian fatality on Lynnway?
Very sad to hear. I wish there were more pedestrian bridges over the road like at the community college.

Anonymous participant 433 part of the problem is people often jaywalk right across six lanes while the cars have a green light and they don't even bother looking.
