I get that it's hard to break up with our childhood favorites, but we've known that JK Rowling was weird about trans women since before any of these movies came out. 🧵

Some quick personal thoughts on the news today, as a Static Media union, partnered with WGA, has gained voluntary recognition. 🎉🎉🎉

So shook about the news of Static Media organizing a union that I almost just woke up my partner to tell him. I never thought this day would come, and I wish it had come 3 or 4 years sooner before so many of my talented friends were unceremoniously laid off or otherwise quit the industry entirely. It's also not lost on me, as someone who left Static for a more stable job, to be seeing this news on the first day of the first paid vacation I've had in years (ever?), a day after i started researching debt lawyers over the amount of debt i incurred while working full time freelance, and a week after i started seeking out resources for the emergent adhd that kneecapped my writing career and mental health when i couldnt afford a diagnosis. There is n accounting for what is lost when a company refuses to give its employees the basic rights that should be afforded to all workers. The cost is real, devastating, and continuous. Hopefully independent contractors will be next. Cheers and solidarity to everyone who made this happen. Love to everyone who wanted to earlier, but had no fight left.

A 21 year old from Africa watching Glasgow stand up against racism. Same fight. Different continent. The world is more connected than they want us to think. 🌍

Huge turnout against racism in Glasgow today - can't even see the end of the crowd. Chants so far include "Nazi scum off our streets" and "Refugees are welcome here."

It's surreal to see Scottish flags popping up everywhere this week and not knowing which are for the World Cup and which are for the racist pogroms! I think they're mostly for the World Cup, but whew, that timing.

I'm gonna need everyone I know who writes about horror, TV, fame, or queer representation to tune in for The Vampire Lestat. The time for "I didn't read the book" or "there's just too much good TV to see" has passed. Get on board soon, or we'll all have an obnoxiously great summer without you.

I really liked the first two seasons of AMC's Interview with the Vampire. I *loved* the third season, retitled The Vampire Lestat. My review:

Review: 'The Vampire Lestat' absolutely rocks

'Interview with the Vampire' brilliantly reinvents itself around its charismatic, shockingly funny new title character

Anthony Head was such a warm, one-of-a-kind screen presence that I started dreading today's news almost as soon as I first saw his work. The kind of guy who makes you feel greedy because any amount of screen time never feels like enough. Also, I think it's important to note that he was very hot.

I've grown to love dumb documentaries. My personal dumb documentary sweet spot is somewhere between "too good to pause and rant about" and "so bad that it makes me want to drop everything and become an investigative journalist."

I hate that I'm still capitalism's bitch, but I got a job offer this week after 5 bleak months of unemployment, and everything - from sorting my clothes to checking social media (hi!) - suddenly seems infinitely easier. I'm hoping to be here more often now that structured days are on the horizon!

Boosting this because Carmen's great and Refuweegie is also great! It's a small but mighty org that shows up for immigrants in the Glasgow area every single day. They truly do invaluable work and deserve as much support as possible.
