@mrjamesob.bsky.social are you really asking which car salesman could sell you a bag of nails... a lemon? Stick to the facts: the salesperson does not change economic reality, a lemon is still a lemon

@mrjamesob.bsky.social listening to Burnham - I wish I was a believer, it must be so comforting to only hear words as deeds. All I hear is how much difference and where's the money coming from? And Labour without division... when has that ever happened?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social - I'm won over - Ed Miliband!!! Absolutely - evidence that the Labour Party finds it hard to arrive at the right conclusion (ok, the unions tipped it) but here we are again... Well all right, as Kinnock said

@mrjamesob.bsky.social The big battle is the right wing media, the bots, the online disinformation, character assassination, and foreign interest in stoking those divisions. Which Labour MP has the strength of character & impeccable credentials to resist and repel that assault? Not Burnham - Jarvis

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Starmer is being asked to timetable his own political execution. It is dressed up as calm management. It is not. If Starmer goes, there must be a proper contest. Anything else leaves a party in power without the legitimacy it needs to govern. open.substack.com/pub/a8drewso...

@mrjamesob.bsky.social He is still carrying the Ming vase. Not the electoral vase now, it’s the debt one. Borrowing hit £23.3bn in May, well above forecast, with debt around 95% of GDP. That’s why the Burnham wave of hope keeps crashing into the rocks of fiscal reality.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Brown abolished MIRAS completely in April 2000, arguing it had become a middle class perk. At precisely the same time he refused to remove mortgage interest tax relief for buy-to-let landlords... buy-to-let was more efficient & cheaper than building council houses.
010
Dr Andy Wilson @a8drewson.bsky.social · 18/05/2026
@mrjamesob.bsky.social but Brown didn't create buy-to-let. That was Tory encouraged in the early 1990s with the introduction of six-month assured shorthold tenancies. Blair and Brown believed the expansion of buy-to-let landlordism was more efficient & cheaper than building council houses. I forgot!
020
Dr Andy Wilson @a8drewson.bsky.social · 18/05/2026
@mrjamesob.bsky.social You were right. Brown's Treasury knew buy-to-let investors could push first-time buyers out of the market but chose to do nothing about it. A secret briefing obtained through a FoI request showed the govt was "asleep at the wheel" on the overheating housing market.
