in this case it ended with thorough visits to tutorials and documentation (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) I didn't bother asking AI more clarifying prompts

did this mass reencoding with #batch script. at first I prompted it to #deepseek coder, what could go wrong, just 1 file.. fixed 8-10 errors myself before it worked: quotes, expansion, parentheses, string join #bat files are HARD for #vibecoding, confirmed in practice #buildinpublic #windows #cmd
what AI gave out, part 1... it added extra pairs of quotes to paths, then it created several folders for each word in the input path, then the counter variable turned out a string... 😵‍💫what AI gave out, part 2... more errors: delayed expansion wasn't enabled and therefore counter didnt increase; moreover, counter entered second loop not as 0 but already increased from the previous loop; directory paths were falling apart due to wrong way of referring to variables; parentheses in an echoed line were breaking the logic; the variable being iterated (%%F) didn't properly interpolate in the line of calling ffmpeg and was inserted as literally %%F; completion message wasn't properly interpolated too...script fixed by myself part 1. enabled delayed expansion; therefore changed the way of referring to variables; removed many redundant quotes; added a separate variable for counting videos before the reencoding iteration...script fixed by myself part 2. here too: removed too many quotes; fixed ffmpeg call line formation; decreased ffmpeg verbosity btw; due to enabled delayed expansion iteration over files in a folder actually started to work

I heckin love #ffmpeg! reencoded all the backuped family videos and freed 25 gb of space!!! de facto compressed them, not changing any properties, only ffmpeg -i though a few of the videos after the re-encoding were bigger than source ones... 🤔 #BeforeAndAfter #compression #filecompression #mp4
videos sizes before using ffmpeg... (rendered like this in wiztree)videos sizes after re-encoding them with ffmpeg (I didn't touch images)

(part 2 of #swagger post above 👆) besides OneOf, also figured out how to add: - controller description - non-default content type - custom schema filter (to show the OneOf properly) have some more related pics #buildinpublic #dev #documentation #api #json #backend #http #dotnet #aspnetcore
the custom schema filter, which upon encountering that "flexible" type shows oneOf schema with 2 other types instead of showing properties as usual (that "flexible" type has no properties)code fragment in program cs where I add swagger, include comments to it and add the custom schema filter from previous pictotal top view of the endpoints in swagger nowall used schemas listed under endpoints in swagger. as I said in the previous post, couldn't figure out how to hide that intermediate oneOf type

I continue documenting #API s with #swagger and this time it's maritime project! ^^ and this was complex I must say despite so few endpoints main achievement here is showing polymorphic (OneOf) schema, for an endpoint returning 2 types of payloads #buildinpublic #dev #documentation #json #backend
endpoint to get data about all ports. used to load markers on the map. its the only endpoint in its controller so far. as you can see, description and response schema added - what I already learnt on previous API. but a description for a controller is new :) endpoint for streaming spatial data of chunks of marine economical zones (eez) inside a given viewport. in practice the viewport is basically ya screen. here its a part 1 screenshot, I added description to the endpoint and parameters. the last 4 ones are actually from a viewmodel instance in code, had to document the viewmodel class - descriptions of these 4 params are summaries of its propertiespart 2 screenshot of the streaming EEZ data endpoint. BEHOLD the 2 in 1 schema. 1st type of response carries actual GeoJSON, the 2nd type is a command to delete some existing chunk from map. the root type FlexibleSpatialResponse is not a real response type, in code its an empty class, exists only for documentation generation purposes... and couldn't find better way to show the 2in1 other than tell about it in response description 😅endpoint for getting info which EEZ if any, there is in a given point. in practice used on click on map as a part of point information feature... nothing extraordinary here as you can see, nice additions of description, params descriptions, response schema

follow up to last hotfix in the maritime project: there I learnt about and enabled websocket message compression (aka permessage-deflate) because of new aisstream.io rule, without compression the connection falls off in seconds 👀 #buildinpublic #dev #dotnet #backend #csharp #programming #ais
current full configuration of the client web socket that intercepts the source stream of AIS messageadding this pic from the previous post again. its a part of the updated method for parsing the arriving AIS messages. but now look at the "Compression Negotiated: True" message, that's it, the websocket permessage deflate. just to clarify, thats not a mandatory message on the protocol level, its just a feature of this particular API aisstream.io

MARITIME PROJECT news!! :D aisstream.io updated their #API and I had to fix #json parsing in #AIS pipeline it relied on getting bytes by position. I learnt it's bad practice only when it broke.. rewrote still without reflection or string allocation tho😁 #buildinpublic #dev #dotnet #backend #csharp
fragment of an updated parsing method, the one that takes a payload as byte array, which arrive in tens/hundreds per sec from web socket, into a c#/grpc object ready to be yeeted in inter service communication. so, earlier this method began with a loop iterating over literal bytes after a FIXED position, right after a JSON property " "MessageType": " extracting its value untill the finishing quote into a string variable.. and it WORKED for whopping about HALF A YEAR, somehow the order of properties in JSON payloads was always the same! after update it isn't anymore. I implemented extracting a span with that message type property and as you can see, comparing it with possible types on byte level, even no strings necessary :)another half of the AIS parsing method. detailed explanation is in the alt text of the previous picture. here you can see that this way with Spans I handled even the case with PositionReports, of which there are several types with similar names - and not a single loop of byte by byte comparison 😅 also yes, now on aisstream.io we have to enable websocket message compression and there is a new message type for it, but it didn't fit in this one post and will be shown properly laternew method of getting the message type name from a byte JSON payload of an AIS message. no strings! only hardcore working with spans directly! :))))to be able to compare extracted type names with possible values as readonlyspans, I had to turn the possible values from strings to byte arrays

just had a common issue at a #3dmodel import to #unity3d - pesky useless white materials that can't even be edited... but can be removed! click on model as an asset -> in inspector select Material -> in 1st dropdown select None -> save by clicking on the model in scene #buildinpublic #gamedev #3d
what I got initially, aka defaut situation after import. I heard that Unity may not properly read blender materials based on textures... or it's just I overlooked a setting at FBX import to include textures (⊙_ʖ⊙) i'm new to this... anyway, I decided to use unity's materials on the model... but these white ones would be interfering and would confuse me about the amount of actual materials in the project... that's what led me to remove them, see next picsetting to have removed those white materials, more exactly - to not try to generate them from... some information in fbx

dug up this rather old little #api about exchange rates and practiced adding #swagger documentation to endpoints :] it was unexpectedly hard to find info how to link the xml summaries to swagger!! so I present you in the 1st pic, .csproj + SwaggerGen options #buildinpublic #dev #dotnet #aspnetcore
configuration lines to link xml documentation of controller methods to swagger ui. a file with said xml can generate at project build in the output folder (debug/release/publish), next to .exe and all that. in .csproj one should enable this generation. then in program.cs, path to generated file is injected into options of SwaggerGen middleware.api endpoints described in swagger, 1/3...api endpoints described in swagger, 2/3...api endpoints described in swagger, 3/3

today I wrote my first #roslyn code analyzer! for a #unity3d project! it just bans a namespace from game code, both "using" directive and types from it more exactly - bans internal visualscripting #sqlite lib, to enforce using more reliable one - sqlite-net #buildinpublic #dotnet #gamedev #csharp
compilation errors in unity editor at attempted usage of the banned namespacemethods of the roslyn code analyzer that actually report errors upon finding banned namespace usage: first one - using directives, second - any type from that namespace anywhere in code.
btw method IsGameAssembly just checks for the name to be either Assembly-CSharp or Assembly-Csharp-Editor. added this check because else the analyzer was firing nearly thousand of "errors" at unity's own code...settings of the compiled code analyzer dll as a game asset. the label RoslynAnalyzer at the bottom is especially importantscript for unity editor that adds a button to build dll of code analyzer and refresh assets database (obv to make sure to include the dll). in between these the dll is copied to Assets/Analyzers folder, which is specified in the analyzer's csproj. also script in the picture runs on game loading too

today I Learnt how to Add third-party libraries to #unity3d - adding dll to Plugins folder: messy, mostly bad for teamwork ❌😵‍💫 - NuGetForUnity: nice, tho involves changes to editor - UPM (package manager), especially with #git url: thats it, Declarative Dependencies ❇️ #gamedev #buildinpublic #nuget
how a package added from git looks in unity package manager2 new files that appeared in Packages/ directory after adding that lib from git. it is the first third party lib in the project. manifest.json is like a list of either versions (apparently for unity's default ones) or else links to sources. and package-lock has more detailed info where to download what from, and as you can see, it differs pretty much for packages from unity registry and git

I now have #ollama and learnt a way how to ensure it stores models at your location in #windows. when I just set env variable OLLAMA_MODELS, it was ignored but what worked: - run #powershell - set #env var in it - launch ollama in pwsh terminal - use it in other terminal #ai #localAI #llm
described launch from poweshell with environment variable only for this session...i didn't see it has had gui the whole time, and the easiest way to locate models... noticed only after fiddling with post subjI tried setting regular environment variables, user level, system level and both, but didn't help :(

how #android works it amazes me x) after #flashing #risingOS, I didn't like OS size, went to #twrp to do something abt partitions. Changing #filesystem on System is dangerous, so I set to ext2 and BACK to ext4 on /DATA 🥁🥁🥁... and OS shrunk!!! thanks but wat?? 😅 #customrom #degoogle #buildinpublic
changing file system in TWRP recovery (Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Change file system). the only partition that it made sense to try changing FS for *and* where it would be safe to do, was /data, which is internal storage. afaik you don't dare to interfere with file system of System and Vendor partitions, because the phone would be bricked beyond recovery (yes, in both senses) and you'd have to physically send electricity to some contacts... so, I was planning to change file system to ext4, as a very advanced yet pretty universal. but it was there already, so why not, I set it to ext2, and then, not exiting the recovery, back to ext4...system size just after flashing this ROM, and I didn't like this number. that's android 13 btw :D yes I squeezed android 13 into a 2018ish phone with 16 gb memory :DDDDsystem size after I tweaked /data's file system and returned from recovery. it WORKED... probably some ghost space was recounted and/or system garbage removed that was attributed to /data 🤔

this month I wanted to nudge my 3 y.o. #telegram bot to work: t.me/rock_paper_s... went to check #Azure website and saw that "web app HAS NO CONTENT" 🤡 apparently it was put AMONG app's CONTENT there after too long inactivity. deleting it fixed the problem #buildinpublic #dev #telegrambot #devops
thats how to reach kudu console (where you can edit files of the published program) in an azure hosted web appthe page that claimed "no content" in the appfolder with the content published bot program (there are dlls and credentials inside), literally next to the file of the page which said """this app does not have any content""" bonus pic: part of dlls and credentials of the bot, where as you can see I just edited TG credentials. more exactly, I replaced the bot token, to move completely same program to other bot instance, because I didn't like the old bot handle and in telegram we can't change existing bots handles

fixed frontend container for the maritime project 😌 by moving the configs copy/rename into build stage, -1 .sh script tried using entrypoint, but in this case all path are static so RUN is enough but thanks @fberrez.co for hint #buildinpublic #docker #devops #angular #frontend #nginx #bash #npm
current frontend dockerfile, in which, as you can see, the contents of former "container setup" script are here directly in a RUN. connected with && to keep it 1 layer despite several commands. and so I can launch the actual program (nginx) in a more classic way - dedicated CMD instruction. that new script "fetch_frontend_script" before npm install - it downloads and unzips libraries which I couldn't install with npm, so had to put into /assets/ folderscript for fetching non-NPM frontend libs and putting them into /assets/ folder

recent surprising situation from docker! clickhouse DB was rejecting inserts! turns out CH relies hard on file system features which are different in windows, and on other permission model so just named volume for the win.. #buildinpublic #docker #clickhouse #filesystem #database #devops #windows
initial problematic situation: during and after project usage, despite backend working completely successfully, especially the microservice that listens to AIS messages stream, sends the significant ones to main API, and what's important here - stores them in history database table. but the latter - as you can see, it didn'tone of repeated error message in clickhouse after I followed to the logs. and data volume configuration in docker-compose at that moment, which is (attempted) bind mount. fully the error messages said that data insert failed because permission denied to dbms data location. comparison of data volumes configuration of persistence in the maritime project. postgres and redis still use bind mounts because their internal structure allows to ""map"" to windows file system: redis is just in memory db, writing data linearly afaik, very simple; and postgresql as a relational dbms, works with fixed files of data... while with clickhouse I had to resort to a named volumeta daa named volume with clickhouse data among other docker volumes of mine

recently I learnt about difference between http 1.1 and http 2 because had an issue with grpc connection during maritime project dockerization. single port in mixed mode assumed only http 1.1, solved by adding http2 port exclusively for grpc #buildinpublic #dev #grpc #docker #http #dotnet #devops
error messages at every attempt of sending data to main backend via grpc with configuration how it was before (only one port). apparently it happened in docker because in the network between containers I'm using http. not https, therefore no protocol negotiation that can change http version 1.1 to 2. unless explicitly specified http2 (probably it was mixed mode), in such situation it is assumed that all http requests are of version 1.1. but grpc requests are by definition over http2, so they are conflicting with this portkestrel server configuration to listen on 2 ports. http2 one for grpc, http1.1 one for everything else, aka for normal endpoints :))main backend container log about listening on 2 ports :)) hehef-i-x-e-d 👍 dont worry this data is already historical, posting a couple days after taking such screenshot

check out how I containerized postgresql for the maritime project compose I didnt expect to make a dockerfile for an existing image custom healthcheck checks also if all the geodata was imported yet (import takes few mins) #buildinpublic #docker #dockercompose #devops #bash #postgresql #database
docker-compose fragment describing postgre sql container. especially look at the volumes partdockerfile for postgresql. as you can see, it installs wget on the VM in the container (and deletes temporary files after the installation). wget is needed here to fetch the data dump file from its hosting (which is a release on github btw) if it wasnt found in the mounted folder "data_to_import". fetch takes really long time btw... its better to just put data dump file in said folderdata import script from postgres entrypoint and its work in container logs. first it fetches data dump file if it doesnt exist (i'm saying it again, this way takes very long time). then the main part - data import into database with pg_restore. creation and import of each table is logged. the tiny "marker" table is created last, after the import.the custom healthcheck. beyond the usual overall database readiness (pg_isready) it checks data import completion, which is determined by presence of "docker_import_marker" table, which respectively, as shown earlier, is created after the import

I'm so back to the maritime project and omw to containerize it into docker-compose. recently dockerized the 3 components separately first... and frontend container is by far the most complicated - nginx, setup bash script, special configs 🤩 #buildinpublic #docker #angular #nginx #bash #devops
frontend dockerfile. basically it pulls my angular app into a container with Node 20, and builds it there to get static html + css + js. these are hosted on Nginx web server which is another layer of this container, that's why angular/npm build output is copied into nginx folder. and my custom steps are to copy my additional custom config for Angular (spoiler - regarding integration with backend) into container, and whatsv even more interesting - copy bash script (which contains even more commands to move files around, see next pic), clean it from windows-specific text artifacts (yes thats the scary line 17) and run itcustom bash script for the frontend dockerfile. it copies/moves files with necessary Angular config, Nginx proxy config and web icon into right places used by web appnginx folder in a running frontend container with project files, including config ones, as well as index.html which is part of the results of the (npm) builddifferent web icons for when launched with and without container
