MCTD can spontaneously include some wild sub-syndromes. Oral Allergy Syndrome is my latest with reaction (itchy lips & palate, burning tongue, & projectile 🤮) from eating a raw apple. Certain fruits & vegetables have similar proteins to certain pollens that change seasonally! #ChronicIllness

I went to meetings, gave feedback on the CoV site, & wrote letters. Although it was suggested to place the station beneath a new high-rise, a deal was made: the school district, BC Hydro & the parks board. The BC Utilities Commission has not yet approved. Playground gone. Not enough $ to rebuild.

The early morning was cool & clearing… fall approaches… treated myself to a ride on Golda (my trusty mobi) to English Bay… the blue mat in the photo allows those on mobility devices to get close to the water’s edge 😁😁😁 sunlight on the palms touched my heart ❤️ 9:15: I’m home with all 🛒 done

Thought I paced myself better yesterday but no. 🤦🏼‍♀️ However, I did make a vat of Italian bean soup (spinach & pasta added separately per portion later). Called pasta e fagioli, it is a traditional Tuscan dish in a fragrant mirepoix! I did the dry cannellini beans up in the slow cooker first .

It’s decidedly autumn 🍂 🍁 which I love so I made a pot of Italian pasta e fagioli soup (from scratch, including reconstituting dry cannellini beans)… very nummy & my apartment smells great!

I like staring out my window at a tree for 5-10 minutes & then close my eyes so I can hear the wind move through their leaves…

I depend on Golda, my mobility scooter, to be my legs & get me anywhere outside of my apartment. I can hobble and/or walk like a penguin for very short distances (~10 feet). I last walked any distance in 2020. I have MCTD (a blend of inflammatory symptoms, mostly myositis) & EGPA.

This applies also to #Autoimmune diseases… it’s like we lose part of ourselves as the disease progresses.

There is so much loss with autoimmune diseases including the loss of friends and family that just don’t understand your illness.

The invisible weight of autoimmune disease permeates everything from losing the life you made to feeling excluded and lonely because you can’t relate OR others cannot relate to you.

Some friends just don’t get how important this procedure is for me. I want to remind them that I spent 4 weeks in intensive care while those brilliant medical minds determined how best to treat me & my #Autoimmune diseases. Imagine if your heart sped up its rhythm in response to being ill. 😷

I have another perspective. I am disabled with effects of multiple autoimmune diseases. Only 5 people are allowed to come into my home, and they must mask. It is my only safe space where I’m not at risk of being exposed to viruses. I’m protective & put my health needs above social ones.

A team from tropical Jamaica actually competed in bobsledding at the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. During the four-man bobsled event, the real team did crash their sled violently, and they did walk alongside it across the finish line to widespread applause. With our John Candy!

I think that if the “healthy” person has experienced severe illness / injury, their experience of pain is solely with initial trauma & an easing of the pain. Limited as their experience be, their knowledge of anything long-lasting does not exist. That requires empathy that has not yet developed.

A list of how pain changes people that ranges from some becoming crueler to some developing empathy, to others becoming stronger, better, wiser.

I feel for all the animals pushed out by the fire… in my mind, I still see the forest fire scene out of Bambi… active animal evacuation in rural areas in the Okanagan is on. Special travel permits are being granted to farmers to return to care for their animals.
