they're getting really big and strong!! probably should've removed some to reduce the crowding but couldn't bring myself to do it..
around 6 baby phalaenopsis orchids growing from a stem. they each have 2-3 flat green leaves with the biggest reaching around 4 inches. they are all coming out from one point in different directions the same cluster of plants as viewed from the back. the leaves are facing mostly away, and it's easier to see how they all attach to one central point from this side. there is also a little nub forming at the base of one; it will be a root!

picked up a $10 serial mouse on Kijiji for a friend's ancient DOS laptop and it came with a catalogue. i want the Logitech Kidz Mouse.... do they still make mice that look like mice..
a photo of the Logitech "Kidz Mouse" in a catalogue. it is designed to look like the animal. the body is teardrop shaped and white, with a blue tail (the cable) coming out of the round end. the ears are the left and right buttons, also blue and about 2/3 of the way to the pointed end. past those, there are even little dimples that suggest eyes.

it looks like one would hold it with the hand on the "butt", with the nose pointing away from themself and the "tail" coming out under their palm. it's really cute but looks like it might be awkward to use.

the caption is as follows:

Kidz Mouse
The adorable shape makes computing easy for children 3 and up. And it's simple for parents to install.

i didn't enjoy this at all. it probably won't work for very long (because i did a bad job). in my defense, i don't have a microscope, and im also not any good at soldering
macbook pro 2016 backlight cable which has been cut and spliced with a new one. it's quite small and has 10 tiny wires (poorly) soldered across the gap to connect the traces. there's scotch tape wrapped around the whole mess. my finger tip is in the top-left corner looking like a thumb because it's so magnified, lolthe other side of the cable (see first image) with tape covering the joint. no solder on this side. there's a connector at the top. part of the lcd and "MacBook Pro" lettering is blurred in the backgrounda 2016 macbook pro 13" with touch bar, functioning on the monterey lock screen. it has a green countryside wallpaper from "only yesterday". despite being opened all the way there is miraculously no "stage lighting" or backlight issue.

[insect photo (but cute, i promise)] the smallest monarch butterfly caterpillar ive ever seen, about the size of a grain of rice, omg
a very, very small caterpillar with black, white and yellow stripes (around the body, not lengthwise). its face has stripes as well. there tiny little pointy feet at the front and cute squishy feet at the back. there are soft black antennae behind the head and little black nubs at the back.

it's on the underside of a milkweed leaf, magnified so it looks very fuzzy. the veins are almost as big as the bug itself.

just found out that toads are a social construct
wikipedia screenshot: Frog species with rough skin texture due to wart-like parotoid glands tend to be called toads, but the distinction between frogs and toads is informal and purely cosmetic, and does not reflect taxonomy or evolutionary history.

completely missed this earlier, the "keiki paste" had also triggered it to make another set of flowers and one of them has two lips??
a pinkish purple phalaenopsis orchid flower with white edges and lines. it has two of the central part sort of squished together. the ones in the background are normal

btw, here's the progress on the purple and white phalaenopsis duplication. it seems to have decided to make like five plants?? it'll be a while until these are ready
five small green leaves growing radially from a stem. a couple of them have a second leaf nested inside. there are some other weird green blobs coming off too

today's cattleya pic since it feels unfair to post endlessly about the phalaenopsis propagation drama and never even show my favorite orchid, just because it's comparatively easy to duplicate
a cattleya orchid flower and unopened bud. the flower is pale green, with three pointed petals at the back and two ruffled petals and a cylindrical lip in front, offset from the back ones such that they're all evenly spaced. the end of the lip is purple. there are various stiff green leaves behind

bit confusing (for me), a trace for boot rom was broken resulting in no sign of life and cycling S4 - S0 lines. thankfully there were test points at both sides to solder to. it's the "rare" i7 config as well! ordered it months ago but didn't try to fix it […] [Original post on asentientbot.ca]

can't believe that magic plant hormones ("keiki paste") are really converting a flower bud into baby leaves 🥹 im so excited to (hopefully) duplicate my phalaenopsis orchids finally!!
two nested baby leaves growing out of a node on a plant stem where a flower bud would normally develop
