(it seems a little crazy it also blocks cloudflare beacon? Really makes it much harder for sites to stop getting taken down by bots - but hopefully that isn't causing an issue for you)

You are right - it is the adblocker breaking the page - though there aren't any ads at all. I've tweaked the code so that it should work anyway now.

i think this is likely caused by a browser extension. If you could email that address and let me know what browser extensions you are running that would be great - many thanks.

We've tested extensively on Safari, Firefox and all other browsers. Could you possibly press F12 and see if there are any errors shown on the console tab? Our email is app-support@walkhighlands.co.uk

Can you just clarify - when you say goes back to previous screen, there isn't one - the whole thing is all on the one page. If you could email app-support@walkhighlands.co.uk with a screenshot it would be great.

Hi Ella, you just need to choose from the options - walks near Edinburgh city, near Edinburgh airport or near Edinburgh gate. The blue button is only for using your position instead of a text search.

there still seem to be some placenames we have about 20 of - tricky when all in the same council area. Though I'm trying to add some disambiguation on these when I find common ones.

Our search function has now been completely rewritten. You can search for walks by name, for hill pages, or enter a placename and search for walks nearby, with many filters and ordering options (including ordering walks by their rating as per requests). www.walkhighlands.co.uk/walk-search....

The new version of our app is out in the stores. This fixes alot of minor bugs but most importantly adds explanatory tutorials that display as you start using it. If you were confused before, try the new version and it may help! Find it on the App Store / Google Play - and enjoy your walks!

Well done to everyone who guessed we were walking St Cuthbert’s Way. Here’s a few shots from the high point of the route - Wideopen Hill - all taken this afternoon. It’s a lovely traverse and also forms the first stage of the Scottish National Trail.

No it’s by the Tweed near St Boswells (on St Cuthbert’s Way)

I’ve not had really good conditions on Sgulain but I’m sure given luck it could be a great experience. A bluebird day on snowshoes with mountain hares to watch, or a visit from an eagle, and it could be epic :-)

I have been there in winter and remember being annoyed by the little gully between it and A' Chailleach... I'm sure you could have a great day there given great conditions. Still a good few mountain hares to spot in that area too.

What they don't tell you - sometimes Munro-bagging looks like this - from Càrn Sgulain today. That's an 80% chance of clear summits for you 😉 I've been up 4 times which may be 3x too many. Is it possibly the dreariest Munro of them all? Brightened only by that strikingly vivid green area of bog!

Note that most Samsung phones have gestures turned off by default - and instead show a back button on the bottom bar.

Wondered how to go BACK in our app? If your phone supports gestures (all iPhones, most Android phones) - you can go BACK in Walkhighlands app (and most others) by simply swiping in from the left edge of the screen. On iPhones, you can go forward by swiping in from the right edge too.

I get you. We’ll look into doing that (though we’ve never had any previous requests for it - I suspect most do use password managers)
110
walkhighlands @walkhighlands.co.uk · 15/08/2026
For that reason, we can’t ever tell people their passwords as the we don’t have them. So if you forget your password you have to reset with a new one. I'd strongly recommend using a secure password manager. Chrome has one built-in on Android, whereas iOS and Macs have the Password app.

walkhighlands @walkhighlands.co.uk · 15/08/2026
Hi John, we use a one-way password hash for best security. At login the system converts what you type into a hash - a one way process - and checks it matches the stored hash. This means our system doesn’t know anyone’s password - only the hash. If we stored passwords that would be much less secure.
