After Lang left, we also saw police surround a person who appeared to be splayed on their back. We later saw police take someone, who appeared to be alert and sitting upright unassisted, out of the crowd on a golf cart thing. Riot police gone, local cops still on scene but keeping their distance.

I opt for the last option:

Say that the Commission will determine who to invite to its meetings and how to structure them, that the Commission intends to proceed with subject mater experts on the agenda on a separate panel, and hopes that the Superintendent will attend.

Here are my thoughts: We have already accommodated him way too much. We had to bifurcate the hearing on 2/26 because he couldn’t be present. We are conducting a public hearing on April 2, Passover, because that’s the only date he was available. Then we met ahead of time with him and basically gave him a script of the evening so that he could prepare and not be caught off
guard. Very generous on our part. Then he refused to be part of a panel discussion so we changed the format for him. Now he’s refusing to even appear at a meeting where subject matter experts will also be presenting. In addition, he is deliberately misstating the purpose of the meeting so that he can control the narrative. Under these conditions I don’t know why we are bothering to have him at all. It will only serve to further enrage the community who is asking for accountability and transparency. Perfectly reasonable requests. I don’t know whether we can force him to participate. I don’t see the point of proceeding on his terms.

Golden's bench trial was set to start this morning, but the public defender's office also released a statement this morning claiming prosecutors plan to offer her a new plea deal.

CHICAGO – On Monday, Cook County prosecutors are expected to present Keshia Golden with a new plea offer ahead of her scheduled trial at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
The plea deal and Keshia’s decision will be discussed during the hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday before Judge Steven Watkins in Courtroom 500.

Keshia and her legal team with the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender will be available for questions following court.
Keshia, now 37, was 8 months pregnant on Oct. 22, 2022 when she was physically attacked yet again by her abusive boyfriend, Calvin Sidney, while she was reheating leftovers from her baby shower earlier that day.

Keshia acted in self-defense, as anyone would, so she could flee the apartment they shared to safety. She returned when she saw police lights outside.
Despite the longstanding abuse she endured, Keshia was devastated that her partner and the father of her child had died.
Prosecutors charged Keshia with first-degree murder, even though she was defending her life and the life of her daughter.

Keshia’s case raises questions about who in our society is allowed to defend their life. Black women are far more likely to face serious charges when they use force to defend themselves from their abusers.
But Keshia’s story is also one of success. She was released from jail after Chicago Community Bond Fund paid her money bond, and she has been able to raise her daughter in these crucial early years. For more than three years, she has checked in daily with pretrial services, attended each court hearing and has not been accused of any new offense. Keshia has enrolled in educational courses and looks forward to a bright future for her family.
