It's been 7 years since the FDA inspected the Mexican farm at the center of the outbreak. By law, the FDA is required to do *20 times* as many inspections of foreign suppliers as it did in 2025. And after last year’s firings, its inspection rate is only getting worse. www.cbsnews.com/news/taylor-...
FDA inspections really are the first line of defense for mitigating outbreaks. If FDA isn't routinely going out to food facilities, it's just completely blind," said Meridith Seife, the lead author on a Health and Human Services Inspector General report on FDA inspections of U.S. facilities. "It's unable to ensure that those facilities are complying with the laws, with regulations, and that the food that they handle is safe.

We also put some little flame icons on our landing page so you can see at a glance where the administration's actions have been especially intense in the past couple of months, for the issues we track. unbreaking.org

Back to the Washington Post on Orlín Hernandez Reyes, the murdered toddler, and what his death illustrates: @mariasacchetti.bsky.social found that *no one* is responsible for making sure that children of parents deported by DHS are safe and protected. 11/12 www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...
Screenshot from Washington Post:
Nothing in federal law requires ICE — or any other agency — to check in with a child's caregiver after detaining their parents, attorneys say.
Agency policy calls for following parents' wishes for their children, including removing them together, but immigration lawyers say requests to be deported as a family are often ignored. The lack of safeguards for the children left behind is considered a glaring blind spot in a system going full-tilt to deport record numbers of immigrants.

We’ve also got timeline filtering by topic happening on our biggest timeline, Immigration. We’re closing in on 500 events in there, so filtering is an important tool for seeing what’s actually going on. Here’s the filter for “due process”: unbreaking.org/issues/immig...
Screenshot showing the “Filter timeline” interface on the Unbreaking Immigration timeline, with clickable tags including asylum and refugee protections, birthright citizenship, deaths, defying court orders, detention conditions, due process/habeas, ideological screening, lawsuits, mass detention, and many others that won’t fit in the alt text field here. The “due process/habeas” tag is selected.

The federal government also continues to chase state voting records. Despite a previous denial from a federal judge, FBI agents raided Fulton County, Georgia, and removed more than 700 boxes of ballots: www.reuters.com/world/us/fbi...
