The cricket club have moved, and it's now just a proper rugby ground. The Hive is actually the example given all the time, the Liberty was great but just way too big and this has been a long time in the oven!

They always played both rugby & cricket there (Wales played their first international at St Helens), but have redeveloped it over the summer for the Ospreys to now play there. There's a 4G main pitch, but the wider cricket field will involve a fan zone and etc.

Mark Rhydderch-Roberts has given an interview with the Telegraph about his abruptly terminated WRU chair interview. Interestingly says he was headhunted for the role then told he was unsuccessful within an hour of interviewing. Feels the WRU job is “not one any rational person would take”
"I was more perplexed than upset," Rhydderch-Roberts tells Telegraph Sport, saying he would not have taken a job with such obvious restrictions, but adding: "They would never have offered it to me - because they clearly would have been held to account. One of the main jobs of any chair is to hire and fire a chief executive. And, if you do not have the power to do that... no professional person would take that on.

"As the chair of the WRU, an organisation that is facing generational challenges, you need a mandate to turn around, using any means possible, what is a failing organisation. If you're going in there simply to rubber-stamp a set of existing policies and people - and that includes the chief executive [Abi Tierney] - then that's not much of a job. It's not one that any rational person would want to take. I suspected that was going to happen but it was a bit jarring to learn almost immediately that I had been rejected.
"I was a little surprised by the interview panel as it appeared to be light on genuine rugby or top-level sports experience, but I treated it professionally and outlined an alternative, positive and ambitious future for Welsh rugby that did not involve a core strategy of managed decline.

I mean I didn't, but I did pull my punches about it a bit admittedly Saints were the only Prem team in my top 10, as I recall. Bath might have snuck in around number ten but both leagues are silly time now. As I say on the episode, the Top14 is light years ahead of anything else.

Huge kudos to Costelow. Honestly feels like they might as well put a picture of him instead of the badge next to the Scarlets name on the table.

Every single time I check the score of a PREM game I haven't been following my eyes seem to bulge out of my head. At this point it seems more of a me thing than a league thing.

I can see Australia doing it next week. I feel like they learnt a lot from that game. They came out super fired up but weren’t accurate. Tom Wright said after the game they need to learn when to go hard and when to ease off a bit and I think that spot on.

The infamous game where Beauden Barrett scored 4 tries on his own was an All Blacks domination and they won 40-12. Nobody can argue the Wallabies weren't better tonight than that night, yet the game just gets away from you so dramatically right now.

Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Australia will be better for that. Emotionally super up for it but off in execution. All Blacks were calm, accurate, and just did the thing they do. Their contestable kicking game was exceptional today.

The Wallabies are not as far off as 50-19 makes it seem. The game is so open and full of tries right now that a game can be tight, as this was at 50-odd minutes, and when one team pulls ahead a bit, instead of it ending 31-19 or something, it ends up being 50.

Lovely to have a single game renew both the "Why isn't Morgan Morris playing for Wales?" and "Why isn't Angus O'Brien playing for Wales?" crusades for another season

31 minutes and Marika Kooribete is off injured. One touch, one tackle, one miss that led to a linebreak. Not gonna lie, that's exactly what my gut told me was coming from our first star signing in a decade.

Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Marika Koroibete, playing for the Ospreys, just tried to use his foot to intercept a pass going to Wales international Harri Keddie. I don't know which part of this sentence is most surprising.

Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
In predictably Welsh Rugby news, the WRU's "evidence" data for why the Ospreys or Scarlets should be cut would read exactly the same if it was a load of stats on why all four clubs equally pull their weight and should be kept.

Kasende's at the Lions now, ironically, so he'd have been on the other side at the weekend!

This was inevitable. As the biggest team in the world, it was only a matter of time before other sides got pulled into our gravitational orbit. I expect the Springboks to be playing at St Helens by 2028.

For me at least, she's looked kinda disinterested in anything but attempting to score herself for about four years. This'd be fine if she was creating anything, but two tries (both simple finishes on overlaps) in five years says it all.

I don't mean to celebrate a player being cut, but for years we've seen experienced heads become automatic selections, regardless of how they play. Wales now have enough depth to say if you aren't performing, you're out. That's huge. Hopefully this forces Jaz to kick on and refind some form.

Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Wales reaching the point where they have enough depth to drop an experienced but hugely out of form player like Jaz Joyce is a proper watershed. The squad has simply never had the kind of depth to allow this before, and now Lynn can start to send a message to players who aren't performing.

The Sunday night games this season are very much fulfilling the eternal promise of the Top14: Either a non-stop compilation of the best tries and skills you've ever seen, or utterly unwatchable bilge that is only entertaining in comparison to staring at a blank, switched-off TV.

Filo Tiatia, Nigel Davies and Mark Jones have all said in the last two weeks they want us to remain at four. The owners of those clubs are saying the same. The only folk who want to cut a region are the ones at the WRU whose jobs rely on cutting.
2264
Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The fact every broadcast, podcast, and discussion about the regional situation now involves somebody saying "hopefully they stay at four teams" is a very telling sign of how the situation has changed. It truly has become the WRU vs everybody else in Wales.

Squidge Rugby @squidgerugby.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Absolutely. The difference from last season's miserable fraud squad is night and day. The changes behind the scenes seem to really be clicking. The core of youngsters getting a shot also seems to be adding a real emotion and excitement, which is brilliant to watch.

Portugal's Rodrigo Marta getting a shot at the big time and delivering so hard (6 tries in 3 games isn't bad) is such a clear sign of how much talent there is out there in tier two nations, just waiting for their chance.
