On this first day of Dhul Hijjah, one of Islam's holiest seasons, we call on every person of faith and conscience: enough. Silence is complicity. We demand an end to anti-Muslim hate in our politics, our media, and our streets.

Islamophobia kills — the dehumanization of Muslim communities has real, deadly consequences. Union Theological Seminary stands in grief and solidarity with our Muslim siblings.

I am devastated by today's shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego — a house of worship, a school, a sacred community. Three innocent people are dead. This was not random. This was anti-Muslim hate.

His courage and strength cannot but be heartening to Christians and all people of good will who seek a world where children thrive, houses are sturdy, and food and water abound. Thank you, Pope Leo, for speaking for us all.

At Union, we strongly support Pope Leo as he speaks the truth about the Gospel. His words condemning war and calling for peace are Gospel-true. His affirmation of the sacredness of human and planetary life is Gospel-true.

As people of faith, we must cry out: CEASE FIRE. NOW. Let’s work for a sustainable future that affirms the inherent value of every human life. 🕊️

I am no fan of the Iranian regime but this war is not the answer. The children dying under these bombs are not abstractions. They are the children of people I met, people who wanted peace as desperately as we did, as so many of us still do.

In 2015, I stood on Iranian soil. I have prayed with the Iranian people, broken bread, looked into their eyes, and stayed in their homes. I built friendships and was part of creating the foundation for diplomacy. This is slaughter.

Today, the Supreme Court struck down protections against conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ youth — on Transgender Day of Visibility. To our trans siblings: we see you. We grieve with you. We are not looking away. You are not broken. You do not need to be fixed. You are beloved, exactly as you are...

My heart breaks for our siblings at Temple Israel in Michigan. Today's attack on the nation's largest Reform synagogue is an attack on all of us. To Michigan's Jewish community and beyond: you are not alone. We stand with you. Antisemitism is a sin, and silence is not an option.

He stood in the great tradition of faith-rooted public leadership, insisting that the work of justice is sacred work. His ministry reminded us that hope is not naïve optimism — it is disciplined courage. It is the refusal to accept that the world as it is must remain so...

For decades, Rev. Jackson called this nation to its highest moral commitments: to expand the promise of democracy, to defend the dignity of working people, to confront racism and poverty not as abstract problems but as urgent moral crises...

Our sacred traditions call us to truth-telling, and solidarity with those targeted by hatred. We stand with the Obamas, and with all who are harmed by white supremacy and racial contempt. Love of neighbor leaves no room for this cruelty. Justice demands more of us.

I am outraged by the racist social media posts targeting Michelle and Barack Obama, shared by Donald Trump. Racism is not only a political sin—it is a moral and spiritual one. It desecrates the divine image in our neighbors and corrodes the soul of our common life...

A large crowd gathers at an outdoor political rally, standing behind metal barricades. Many attendees hold up smartphones and signs. One central sign reads "THE WORLD ❤️ NYC MAYOR MAMDANI." Another sign to the right promotes a candidate with the text "DEMOCRATS FOR ZOHRAN – ZOHRAN YOU CAN AFFORD – ZOHRAN KWAME MAMDANI – DEMOCRATSFORZOHRAN.COM." The atmosphere is energetic and supportive, reflecting civic engagement and enthusiasm for the candidates.

IRS says churches can now endorse political candidates
Since 1954, an IRS rule had barred houses of worship from explicitly endorsing political candidates.

The IRS’s ruling allowing churches to endorse political candidates marks a significant and unfortunate shift. At Union, we believe the public has been well served by tax-exempt religious institutions refraining from participation in partisan political activity.
