The Finger Lakes–Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance works hard to ensure we can continue relying on our lakes for drinking water and recreation, and to support our local economies. I presented the Alliance with a proclamation honoring its dedication to protecting our precious lakes.

Got the chance to visit the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT) in Auburn. It’s a powerful tool for teaching students to combat hate and to embrace our differences. Thank you to the MMOT and its educators for traveling across the state to share this important message.

Wow, it was a busy day at the New York State Fair. Had the chance to watch the Pride Day flag-raising, visit with Senator Gillibrand, and enjoy a delicious potato from a Cayuga County farm that supplied thousands of pounds of potatoes to the Potato Booth.

This is a win for children, teens, and parents in NY. Addictive social media platforms can lead to depression and harm overall mental health. I’m hopeful this settlement will protect our youth, allowing them to enjoy social media while avoiding the negative consequences of too much screen time.

Great news! Governor Hochul is expanding the NY SWIMS Initiative. Now, children 12 and under can learn to swim for free. Learning to swim is a fun way to stay active and build the skills children need to stay safe around the water. YMCA in Syracuse and Auburn are participating in the program.

As we celebrate the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, we must also work to protect them. Recent Medicaid cuts put the health and financial security of families, seniors, and people with disabilities at risk. We should be strengthening these programs, not cutting them.

Companies use personal data, like browsing history and device type, to charge people different prices for the same product. That kind of surveillance pricing is unfair, and we can’t allow it. My bill (S8623), which passed the Senate and Assembly, bans it and ensures transparency for consumers.

It's time to hit pause on new data centers and take the time to get this right. That's why I spoke in support of a one-year moratorium to give New York the time it needs to develop a smarter approach.
