We're launching the embedded-cal project: Providing access to hardware accelerated and formally proven cryptographic algorithms on #embedded systems in #RustLang. For this, I'm teaming up with @inria Paris and @cryspen, supported by the #EU funded @NGIZero. Right now we're going through […]

Many people are trying out #embedded development on RIOT at our booth on Chemnitzer Linuxtage. The awards for the embedded challenge are already gone, but you may find getting a first taste of playing with microcontrollers just as rewarding 🙂 #CLT2025

Their desk is laden with development boards and colorfully stickered laptops.A closeup on the boards on the booth desk, overlooked by a plush Tux.

Some boards have antennas, some Ethernet or USB sockets, some have battery slots.

We are excited to preset RIOT on #CLT2025. As a little teaser, we attached an image of the RIOT@CLT25 poster. Come to our booth to check out interesting projects based on RIOT, ask questions, and even try out RIOT in our little coding challenge – no prior knowledge required.
Poster in German for RIOT OS at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage

Three diagrams show
1. the Internet split in devices with memory measured in Gigabytes (PC / phone / raspi, running Linux, Windows, Android etc) and in Kilobytes (PCBs, running RIOT)
2. a driver stack showing sys/packags building on kernel and drivers (hardware independent), on top of hardware dependent parts (peripheral drivers on top of CPU/boards)
3. a network stack, with CBOR/Senml/LwM2M building on CoAP/MQTT-NS, building on TCP/UDP/DTLS, on IP, on 802.15.4/Ethernet/BLE/LoRa.

Text:

Release 2024.10 "FlexTape"
Dear RIOTers, I am happy to announce that RIOT 2024.10 “FlexTape” has been released! 🥳 Here are some of the highlights: This release fixes some long-standing packet buffer leaks that occurred when using gnrc_netif_pktq and 6LoWPAN or netdev_new_api (#20983, #20834). A long standing-bug in the CC2538 radio driver has been fixed when processing corrupted frames, that before could render the device unresponsive. This can be triggered due to radio interference, but we also bel...

The last day of the #RIOTSummit is used for the hackathon. We've learned a bit about time in the presentation, so why not work on clocks? (here: #pinetime, #banglej2)

Our first talks on the #RIOTSummit revolve around proving what happens inside #IoT devices, and finding what is on a device even if it does not tell. For more, also follow #RIOTSummit -- people post more than we can boost.

The RIOT devroom at #FrOSCon is shutting down, but our team is still roaming the event. It was great talking to so many people, and having more than 20 participants in two workshop sessions.
A small auditorium with over a dozen people working in small groups on laptops and hardware.

A slide says "Tutorial: Embedded Rust".Four people in RIOT shirts, including a kid.
