At the HumanX AI conference, AI security experts urge companies not to get distracted by sexy branding and social media chatter. The real threat is 'the stuff that you know is broken.'

Don't Worry About AI Overlords. Focus on Boring Stuff You Should've Fixed Ages Ago
Three experts in the field, however, aren’t having any of that yet. In a panel I moderated at the HumanX AI conference here last week, they said the biggest security risk remains not artificial but organic intelligence: flawed humans who keep failing to think things through.

HP OmniBook 5 Joins $699 Laptop Club, Tips Staggering 42-Hour Battery Life
This is a cheaper version of the Snapdragon X Plus OmniBook 5 14 we reviewed at the start of this year. We lauded its lightweight design and competitive pricing, but its battery life (34 hours and 48 minutes) truly blew us away, beating any conventional laptop we've tested in years. If the new OmniBook makes good on its claims, it could beat those stellar results by several hours.

Does your workflow merit splurging for Apple's compact M5 Ultra power machine? I tested the latest Ultra-level Mac Studios to see how they stack up on performance.

Apple Mac Studio M5 Ultra vs. M3 Ultra: Should You Upgrade, or Hold the Line?
Because both models use Apple's Ultra-tier chips, which have hefty cooling requirements, they each contain massive copper cooling blocks, bringing each machine to a hefty 8 pounds. Although the Mac Studio has internal cooling fans for thermal management, the systems remained whisper-quiet in my testing, even under heavy loads.

It turns out that privacy comes at a cost. Apple's AI models take up a lot of space on iPhone and Mac, but what can you do about it?
bit.ly
Is Apple Intelligence Stealing Your Mac's Storage? Here's How to Turn It Off
The reason, of course, is privacy. Given Apple's value proposition as the only big name in tech not dependent on harvesting your data, its AI implementation depends on on-device processing. That means, instead of pushing your private data to remote servers, your device uses its own resources. However, as a result, Apple's AI models will need to physically be on the device—and as people are finding out, they can take up multiple gigabytes of data.

Have an important phone call coming up and want to record it? It's not easy, but with the right app (and some luck), you can save both incoming and outgoing calls on your Android phone.
bit.ly
Google Makes It Difficult to Record Calls on Android: Here's What Works for Me
Google has never been particularly fond of call-recording apps for Android, at least not those from third parties. With Android 9, the company added limitations that prevented many apps from recording your phone conversations. I found that the apps continued to work, but when I played the recording, I could only hear my end of the conversation—or complete silence. Android 10 cracked down even further on these types of apps by blocking call recording via the microphone.

Can You Get an iPhone 18 Pro on T-Mobile When You Switch?
The new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are marvels of engineering: Faster and more powerful than any other models to date, with professional-level cameras and batteries that have extremely long lifespans. But they’re also more expensive than previous iPhones. One factor is the RAM shortage that has been plaguing the tech industry this year. You might be wondering whether this new series is worth the extra cost.

The S12 Ultra is taller, narrower, and heavier, but it's just as slim as its Apple rival. The smaller Galaxy Tab S12+ ($1,199.99) measures 11.39 by 7.39 by 0.21 inches and weighs 1.22 pounds.
