We just welcomed another major investment in Downtown L.A. Banc of California opened its new office this week, bringing more jobs and activity to the area. This is the momentum we are building as more businesses come to Downtown. Welcome to DTLA!

We will continue to defend our communities, protect the integrity of our public institutions, and make sure Angelenos can access their City government without fear. This law makes clear that those principles are not temporary — they are part of how Los Angeles operates.

Los Angeles is home to one of the largest Filipino communities outside the Philippines. For generations, Filipino Angelenos have helped shape our city. Historic Filipinotown is a proud testament to that legacy, but the Filipino community's impact can be felt across our entire city.

The raids may have left the daily headlines, but they haven’t left our city. I will continue using every lawful tool available to protect Angelenos.

This is the latest action we’ve taken since the immigration raids began in Los Angeles — from providing emergency relief to impacted families and taking legal action to strengthening City protocols and working alongside immigrant rights organizations.

City-owned lots and open spaces must be marked as off-limits for immigration enforcement staging and processing. City departments must secure appropriate City sites against unauthorized access and City contractors must disclose certain data-sharing agreements with federal immigration agencies.

Mayor Karen Bass @mayor.lacity.gov · 01/10/2026
I signed key protections from Executive Directive 17 into City law. We are ensuring City property can’t be turned into a staging ground for immigration enforcement.

We’re repairing and replacing up to 60,000 street lights and using solar technology to make them more reliable, environmentally sustainable, and less vulnerable to copper wire theft.

Mayor Karen Bass @mayor.lacity.gov · 30/09/2026
This is a multi-year investment, but we are already seeing progress across L.A. The numbers here are just a snapshot of that progress as we continue installing more street lights citywide.

Mayor Karen Bass @mayor.lacity.gov · 30/09/2026
Instead, I launched the largest investment in L.A. street light infrastructure in our city’s history.

Mayor Karen Bass @mayor.lacity.gov · 30/09/2026
For years, inoperable street lights piled up across Los Angeles. We inherited a decade-long repair backlog, with tens of thousands of street light service requests across the city. But I couldn’t accept that.

If you want to reduce crime and prevent violence, you have to give people opportunities.

A safe neighborhood is one where families can come together and enjoy it in public spaces. This September, we’re making more room for neighbors to connect, kids to have fun, and families to spend Friday nights together. 💛 Learn more at gryd.lacity.gov/fall-friday-nights

When I became Mayor, I made changing that a priority. Now we’re seeing results. 10,000+ affordable homes have been built, and L.A. is building more than 4X as many affordable homes each year as before. We changed the way L.A. builds but we still have a long way to go. And we’re not slowing down.

For decades our housing supply shrunk while our population grew. Developers were giving up on building in Los Angeles. City Hall was a barrier—building was expensive and took too long.

We’re seeing the results of the continued advocacy in Washington with the introduction of the federal film and television tax credit bill. While I’ve worked aggressively with labor and entertainment industry leaders to expand state-level tax incentives and reduce filming fees locally…

L.A. is building more affordable housing, faster. 10,000+ new affordable homes have been built, with thousands more on the way. Learn more at bit.ly/buildingmorefaster

The Lineage fire exposed a serious problem: a $2,000 fine isn't enough to make a multibillion-dollar corporation act with the urgency our communities deserve. A corporation can afford a $2,000 fine. Families can't afford months of living with the consequences.

Since day one, I have focused on making life more affordable for Angelenos by building the affordable housing that we desperately need.

In 1972, a mother of five opened a small restaurant in Tarzana and began building a dream her family could carry forward. Fifty-four years later, they still are. That’s the story of Tarzana Armenian Deli, but it’s also a Los Angeles story.

Our responsibility is to make sure Angelenos, athletes, and visitors are safe not only inside our venues, but across L.A. I want to thank Governor Newsom and Assemblymember McKinnor for recognizing this important need and for working with us to get this done.

If you own a business in Los Angeles, we want you at the table. The Games may last a few weeks, but the opportunities can last for years. We want L.A. businesses to win contracts, grow and turn these opportunities into long-term success.

As we mark 205 years of independence for Mexico and many Central American nations, we celebrate generations of families who have carried their cultures and traditions with them and made them part of the fabric of Los Angeles.

This week we broke ground on the new Palisades Recreation Center. Every day I think about what families lost in the fires and the long road many are still walking to rebuild their lives. Recovery is about more than rebuilding structures.

This is a tragic night for Los Angeles. My thoughts are with those impacted by the bus collision and the helicopter crash, and with the entire NBC4 family who lost members of their team while they were doing their jobs.

Our neighborhood businesses do more than serve great food and create jobs. They give our communities their character, and events like this show what’s possible when local businesses and residents come together to care for their neighbors.
