I will not be tolerated. My life is international politics, travel, & @KelsaPellettiere.com. Some call me a “recovering libertarian,” but I’m more like a functioning libertarian. I voted against myself one time. KevinYeaux.com

Meyer is an interesting guy, he was as mentioned the chief negotiator for the National Party, the traditional Apartheid government, where he sat with the chief ANC negotiator, current president Cyril Ramaphosa. He resigned from the NP in ‘97 and started his own party for a bit.

But as usual, libertarians will be tagged as responsible for the deranged craziness of anyone who also identifies as libertarian, no matter how actually not-libertarian they clearly are or how relevant they are, a standard that somehow only our ideology is supposed to uphold.

Worth noting that the New Hampshire “Libertarian Party” was disaffiliated by the LNC, for many reasons (including endorsing Trump over Oliver in 2024). They have been crazy right-wing MAGA cosplaying as libertarians because it’s easier than working in the GOP. www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2026...

Reform + Restore is still a combined 28%, but the UK is FPTP so that split helps the traditional parties. Still a concern if people don’t abandon Reform and Restore comes home to Farage though.

Also, I’ve long been of an unpopular opinion that the governments should probably not be in the business of running sports teams, in this case referring to public universities’ athletic departments. I don’t think it’s a high priority issue by any means, but we are seeing how it can be abused now.

I woke up and found out Ole Miss won. Great, glad for the team, they deserve it. Also happy to hear we did not burn down our own city. Anyway, being in Europe and having college football playing overnight so I can just wake up and find out what happened is ideal.

Never mind that we haven’t seen one major center-right party successfully pivot right to take out populist challengers, save for the American GOP which lost control of the party to that faction.

I am, to (again begrudgingly) quote the West Wing, “a lifelong holder of minority opinions.” But I do think it’s a politician’s job to convince voters, not to be empty vessels for polling data.

Alternatively, they can be something other than the other populist party, but the one that believes in democracy and is against corruption. I mean, I’d take that party over the GOP, but begrudgedly. I don’t think parties should simply “accept what the voters want” when what they want is wrong.

I'm convinced that this is just a big a reason for the tariffs as any (misplaced) economic claims: Tariffs give Trump discretionary power, and he likes being the sort of guy who can use govt power on a whim to impress people (in this case), or in return for other favors.

I’ve been using the new Siri for a few months on the Mac and have used Gemini on Android devices for a while, and I stand by the fact that it’s the ideal personal usage for AI: a personal assistant that can take all your info, emails, messages, and help you sort through it.

Twice in the last decade NBC had to give free air time due to presidential candidates appearing on SNL. When interviews end with “we invited X candidate as well but they declined” that is why they say that. This is not new.

On one hand, I have no doubt Disney is extra cautious right now given the FCC’s posture with them. On the other hand, if Kimmel didn’t extend an interview request (which would have been denied anyway) to Paxton, yes that’s an equal time issue and Democratic FCCs have cracked down on that too.

Now I don’t think this will do anything because the trust between the public and Trump is completely gone, but don’t be shocked if both nominees do this again in 2028. Hopefully not but people saw how effective it was in 2020.

The $5k promise is stupid, but people don’t understand that many voted for Biden because he was talking about more stimulus checks, and how much disaffection there was in certain circles when his stimulus plans weren’t what they expected. It’s terrible policy and bad for society. But it works.

You can believe that the renamings are performative and stupid, and I do. But under current law, the president is allowed to rename them in federal mapping data. That law should 100% change. But until it does, I’m not sure it’s feasible to expect Google and Apple to decide what things are named.

I get the anger at Google and Apple given their sucking up to the White House, but I think it’s still misguided in this situation. Should Google and Apple get to decide what things in a country are named, instead of its elected government?
