Wife: What’s the score of the SU game? (I tell her.) Wife: Aren’t those the same kids suing their coach? You’re telling me they’re playing harder for a guy they’re suing?

Tonight (and every Dec. 21 going forward), the @nationalgrid.bsky.social building in Syracuse will be bathed in blue light as a solemn commemoration of the 259 souls lost on #PanAm103 — including 35 @syracuseu.bsky.social students and a couple from Clay NY — and the 11 lives lost in Lockerbie.

I always felt like I related more to night watchman w/an eyepatch Bryan Ferry.

Saban in his generic mancave while Herbstreit coming to us live from the hallway on the Death Star where Han, Chewy and Luke rescue Leia in A New Hope.

Moved it to the top of my channel guide.

I drove home from Virginia Beach. Lotta podcasts.

@shutdownfullcast.bsky.social and Cinephobe top my podcasts, and that’s no surprise.

I did not have a pink Pilates season or whatever my wife and daughter got. I did listen to a lot of Gin Blossoms though.

I listened to almost as many podcast as music.

She’s in (my sister named her Rhonda). 14 lbs at the suggested 6/pound, but I’m giving it 90-100 mins to roast.

I used to document my prep of Samin Nosrat’s buttermilk brined turkey each year, but new platform, new recipe. Went back to a dry brine for 2024 and my 14 lb bird.

A note to my Syracuse area followers. Do not miss Touché in Armory Square, the French inspired bistro from the same guy behind Nobody’s wine bar. Both are absolute delights.

My 10 minute drive home from the grocery store today took twice as long because I was stuck behind a van that was converted into a garden shed? Texas never fails to deliver, even in Upstate NY.

Hi. I was @jaredpaventi at the other place. During the day, I’m a utility PR guy. The rest of the time: -I review restaurants for Syracuse.com + ThisIsCNY.com. -I write about grief + loss realdirtnap.substack.com. -I drive my 14 yo places. -I procure snacks for my 7 yo. -I send reels to my wife.

It's Sunday, so let's mourn the dead. If you haven't read this week's edition of Dirt Nap, then now is the right time to see if you're a member of The Dead Parent Society. Feed my ego and subscribe, while you're at it. open.substack.com/pub/jaredpav...

Ordinarily I’d want to know more but this was on the wall at my aunt’s nursing home so maybe some things are best left to the ether.

Sitting with the committee that will pump $500 million into workforce and community development for the impending arrival of Micron in Central NY. And, one of my colleagues, Melanie Littlejohn, is co-chairing it. Pretty good morning, if I may say so.
