We can win South Carolina
No time to mince words. The untimely passing of Senator Lindsey Graham means the chances of winning that South Carolina Senate seat just got better. It is significantly less difficult to win an open seat than to defeat an entrenched incumbent.

Field Team 6 is planning on fighting for that South Carolina Senate seat as hard as we possibly can. The numbers are clear. Lindsey won his seat 6 years ago by just over 10 points. Since November 2024, the average election swing has been 14-15 points to the left. A seat that would normally be safe for Republicans is now, most definitely, not safe.

We have bought contacts for many, many unregistered, likely Democrats in South Carolina. We have a dream candidate in Dr. Annie Andrews. This seat is absolutely in play.

To be clear-eyed about this, we are the underdogs here. To win here will take every volunteer and every donation we can rally. So if you want to flip South Carolina, and Texas, and Maine, and Ohio, and Alaska, and Iowa, and every single place that will win us back the House and Senate - the time is now to volunteer and donate.

Michele Hornish writes, in her Small Deeds Done Substack, “July 4, 1776 was the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. The Treaty of Paris – the moment when we actually obtained independence – wasn’t signed until seven years later in 1783. Between those two dates was a lot of life, and a lot of loss. Brandywine. Trenton. Yorktown. Valley Forge (....)

We don’t celebrate those years of work, though perhaps we should.

And we don’t celebrate the day that we won.

We celebrate the day we decided to try.”

Beautiful! And we should celebrate every day we decide to try.

Every day that between emails, calls, doctor’s appointments, buying a gift for someone’s birthday, giving the dog her pills… we manage to show up to a voter drive training on zoom. Or write some voter registration postcards while watching the news. Or send some texts to register likely Democrats in Ohio. Or dash off a donation.

Every day that we decide to try is a victory. For courage. For love. For the unstoppable, endlessly resilient life force that sends wildflowers through concrete.

Hornish continues, “…we’re not being asked to celebrate history this year. We’re being asked whether we’re willing to follow in our ancestors’ footsteps and make it.”

PRIMARY NEWS IS GOOD NEWS
We’ve got 5 months to flip the House and Senate – and some good primary news shows the Blue Wave we need is gaining size and momentum every day. When people talk about primaries or any election, they always say “It’s all about turnout.” That is only half true. It’s all about voter registration first, because if voters are not registered, you can’t turn them out!

Back to that good primary news: In Iowa, we now have a great candidate for US Senate in Democrat Josh Turek. He’s not only a state legislator who won in a red district… before that, he was a super-inspiring Paralympian who played wheelchair basketball on the American team. For the first time in years, we have a real shot at that Iowa Senate seat.

In New Jersey’s swing seventh district, which includes Trump’s Bedminster Golf Club, Democrat Rebecca Bennett will now be our super strong candidate. She is a healthcare leader, an engineer, and a former US Navy helicopter pilot. She takes on Tom Kean Jr., an unpopular Republican who has been literally missing for months due to a mysterious illness.

In California, it will take a little while to get the full results, but it’s great news that we avoided two Republicans on the ballot for governor… and that we likely avoided two Democrats on the ballot as well, which would have meant many more millions would be wasted on that race.

Those resources are needed so much more by grassroots orgs (like Field Team 6!) in every swing state and district across the country. It is these battles that will decide whether we win back the House and Senate in November, and cut Trump’s final term in half. That would keep us on track to eject the monster from the White House in ‘28 and save our democracy.

So the time is NOW to redouble our efforts – donate (our greatest need!) – and volunteer. Because when it comes to winning elections, it’s all about registering Democrats!

The May Day General Strike featured over 5,000 actions across the country, and the Sunrise Movement estimates over 100,000 students participated. This new tactic builds on the successes of No Kings and Hands Off. Crucially, it brought in more labor and young people. And for all of it to mean something, we need to channel this passion into success at the polls.

This past week, Field Team 6 held a milestone strategy briefing, where we laid out our powerful new strategy to flip the House AND Senate in November. Here are some of the biggest points:

• Our goal? Contact 18 million. 6 million register. 3 million vote.

BEAT 2018
Yesterday’s decision by our MAGA Supreme Court in Louisiana v. Callais makes our work registering Democrats more important than ever.

This decision gives the go-ahead to any state who wants to conduct a racist gerrymander. All they have to do is call it a partisan gerrymander, which the same Supreme Court has ruled is completely legal.

What that means for the November elections is that Florida will now redraw its maps in an attempt to seize four more House seats. On the national level, that will put Republicans ahead in this gerrymandering arms race by roughly two to four seats.

We can absolutely still win the House this November, but how much we win it by just became existentially important.

Because what this ruling means for 2028 is that states throughout the South will likely draw blatantly racist district maps to hand Republicans 10-20 more House districts. Democratic states will have to fight back as hard as possible with their own maps.

And that is why we need to win this November decisively. We need to not only flip the House, we need to create a buffer of Democratic seats that can withstand the Republican gerrymander in 2028.

In 2018, we needed 24 seats to flip the House. We won 41. It was the largest Democratic House gain since just after Watergate.

This November, LET’S BEAT THAT.

The Election Heard Round the World
In Hungary last Sunday, a breathtaking 80% of voters turned out and ended the 16-year reign of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in a massive landslide. Orbán, a man who had done all he could to become dictator for life, was routed by Péter Magyar – in a roughly 16 point victory. Magyar’s party also defeated him by 2 to 1 in the parliament, winning a supermajority. How did the Hungarian people do this?

They voted in numbers too big to suppress, and won by margins too big to contest.

And they saved their democracy.

Organizing works. Sunday’s victory could only happen because of the day to day, week by week, year after year work of registering new voters and connecting with them on the issues they care about. And joy drives the work! A dancing Hungarian politician showed us what that joy looks like!

Dictatorship is not inevitable. Voters showed us that last year in Poland, and Sunday in Hungary, and right now all across America. Just as post-COVID inflation fueled a rise in extreme right forces across the world, the terrible policies of those regimes are now fueling massive pro-democracy movements that are sweeping aspiring fascists out of power.

So help us register more Democrats and progressive independents! If you’re reading this, you’re most likely already volunteering and donating. Tell a friend about us!
