Don Davis becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, praising North Carolina's sports ban. "There's real concerns about fairness and safety, that's why I believe states should decide what's right to protect women and girls. And North Carolina has decided" With a "trans sports ban" banner.

The Congressional Equality Caucus has released the following statement in response to our story indicating they will not back candidates who "scapegoat transgender people." Kaptur does not appear as of this morning on their endorsed list. Several who took the same vote as her still do, sadly.
“Equality PAC is proud to support LGBTQ candidates and allies to build Pro-Equality Majorities capable of passing critical legislation like the Equality Act. We will always work with Members of Congress and candidates to educate them on issues affecting the LGBTQ community and deepen their understanding of the challenges our community faces.

The Members and allies we support come from communities across the country, and we recognize that serving in Congress, particularly in a Republican-controlled Congress, can require Members to take difficult votes.

We recognize that no Member will agree with us on every vote, and that is part of the legislative process. We must not lose the art of persuasion, and it is imperative that we continue to welcome “imperfect allies” to facilitate meaningful and lasting change for the LGBTQ community.

But there is a clear line: we will not accept candidates or Members using Republican rhetoric that actively harms members of our community—particularly transgender Americans, who have been the target of sustained attacks from the Trump Administration. Campaigns can be won without scapegoating transgender people. Equality PAC will not support any candidate who chooses to campaign by targeting or demonizing members of the transgender community.

Americans deserve candidates who are focused on the issues that matter most to working families: lowering costs, protecting access to health care, and holding the Trump Administration accountable for its corrupt actions.

Our goal is to build a Congress that fights for the rights of every member of the LGBTQ community and delivers results on the issues that matter most to families across America.

Regarding our support for Frontline Members of Congress: the graphic featured in our newsletter was created by the DCCC and was intended to highlight the full slate of Frontline Democrats heading into the midterms. Its inclusion does not indicate that Equality PAC is supporting every candidate featured in…

Another Iowa Dem releases an ad in response to anti-trans ads against her. "We need to protect kids, and we need common sense rules to keep sports fair for boys and for girls. Parents know what's best for our kids. Washington needs to stay out of it." From Lindsay James, IA-02.

Holy shit. Marcy Kaptur becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, and its worse than all the rest combined. "I voted WITH Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of schools, and let me be clear, boys should NOT play in girls sports." This is getting out of control.

Whelp, this is a pretty gross ad from Brown. It would have been completely fine without the "transgender surgeries for kids are already illegal in Ohio" part. Notably, that law also bans all gender affirming care for youth, and top surgery for older teens, which sometimes is necessary.

I never thought I would see "ai accelerationist" or "doomer" out of Obama's mouth. What a wild world, lol. For what it's worth, I also think we need to slow down AI development and stop building data centers.

Barack Obama

@BarackObama
I was encouraged this week to see the leaders of the frontier labs agree on the need for them to slow down the pace of AI development. Given the stakes, it’s a good and necessary first step.

But I’m even more encouraged by the growing recognition that how this powerful new technology develops should be at the center of our public debate.

I’ve been watching the progress on AI for over a decade now, and one thing that’s clear to me is that the potential impact of this technology is not overhyped. It’s also moving at lightning speed – and even faster than those who are engineering it can keep up with.

I’m not an AI accelerationist who believes it will lead to some techno-utopia, and I’m not a doomer who thinks it will inevitably lead to humanity’s destruction.

But whether this technology results in amazing breakthroughs in medicine, energy and education or unleashes huge economic disruptions, greater inequality, and potential catastrophe will depend on the choices that we make right now – choices that should be made not just by the companies involved, but by all of us.

He's wrong about virtually everything in this post, except for one thing. Equality Ohio DID surrender trans people, like Amy Acton did. When your org capitulates to the point anti-trans leaders celebrate like this, you know you did wrong. Ashamed to ever have had a good relationship with the org.

This statement from @EqualityOhio is the ultimate sign of surrender from them.
They know their positions are politically toxic, because no one wants transgender procedures done on kids, and no one wants boys in girls sports. EQOH is just too scared to press Democrats to take clear stances.
They're hoping a wink and a nod will let @amyactonoh skate by in the election, without having the crazy LGBT issues drag her down like a ton of bricks.
It should be simple: does Amy think minors should have access to "gender-affirming care" and double mastectomies? Isn't this the entire reason EQOH exists?
Equality Ohio has updated Dr. Amy Acton's score from an 'A' to a 'B' to acknowledge harm to transgender communities.
Dr. Acton made harmful remarks related to transgender people back on June 30, 2026. In response, we placed her score under review and requested that she engage directly with Equality Ohio and transgender community leaders. Members of her campaign engaged with us, but the meeting we requested with Dr. Acton has not happened yet.
The Acton campaign has updated their website to include LGBTQ anti-discrimination to their campaign platform. We have confirmed the campaign has met with LGBTQ leaders and parents of transgender children.
Her campaign also wrote to the press that she "will always stand up for Ohioans, including the LGBT community. As governor, she is committed to standing up to discrimination and ensuring all Ohioans receive equal protection under the law." She went on to affirm that healthcare decisions should be between a patient and their provider.
We have not been able to confirm meaningful engagement directly between their campaign and transgender communities.
The 'B' now reflects the concern about support of trans Ohioans, alongside her broader record and positions. A 'B' means "insufficient record but supportive public statements."
Dr. Acton's comments didn't happen in a vacuum. They're part of a broader pattern of politicians …

AND ITS CALLED IN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES! Ed Markey, incumbent, beats the anti-trans Democrat Seth Moulton in the primary race for Massachusetts Senate. Congressman Moulton had made targeting trans people part of his repertoire in the immediate aftermath of the 2024 election. He goes down.

It was the caucus's own Facebook page, Laura—not an ODP site. The party couldn't remove the post, which is why it had to order the caucus to remove it, using its recognition as leverage. That's not moderating your own platform. That's compelling another organization to delete its own speech. see:

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio says in a statement to EITM that it is maintaining its endorsement of Amy Acton despite her calling trans girls boys and saying sports bans are a matter of health and safety. Notably, the same bill Acton defended also bans trans youth care.
"Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio stands with transgender Ohioans, and we were disappointed by Dr. Amy Acton's recent comments about participation in school sports. We are among the organizations and leaders raising these concerns directly with her campaign and will continue advocating against political interference in gender-affirming care and for the health, safety and dignity of the transgender community. PPAO's endorsement highlights the stark difference between Dr. Amy Acton's commitment to the Ohio Reproductive Freedom amendment and billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy's extreme anti-abortion views. PPAO is fully committed to bodily autonomy for all of the communities we serve."

4. Now we know why. After prodding by Erin In The Morning, the caucus has revealed the answer: the Ohio Democratic Party itself demanded the criticism be removed, effectively barring those within the party from publicly critiquing a major candidate's transphobia.

A lot of people have been asking why we removed our statement addressing Amy Acton’s comments regarding transgender athletes. As a new caucus, we are still learning the ropes when it comes to being an internal part of the ODP. While operating outside of the party, we were afforded a bit more freedom with respect to our communications with the public. By posting a statement without going through the official approval process we inadvertently broke the rules we agreed to when we were recognized as an internal caucus. 😬
We don’t necessarily agree with this policy and we are still negotiating how we can best comply with the party’s regulations while continuing to advocate for our members. However, despite our protests, ODP insisted that the post be removed and we follow procedure.
After deleting the original statement, we promptly asked about submitting the post for approval through the proper channels so that it could be reposted. At this point, ODP staff informed us that a meeting with Acton was on the table. After thorough discussion, caucus leadership determined this offer aligned with our goal to bring our message directly to her.
We believe she stands the best chance of winning in November by having a full picture of what her constituents want and we are glad she has agreed to meet with us. This is a good sign. We will advocate for her campaign to stop making ineffective right-wing concessions and focus on her plan to make all our lives affordable. She is our only option in this race and not a single Ohioan will be better off if her Republican opponent is elected to office. We are looking forward to working with her and helping her to better understand these nuanced issues so she is able to WIN – which will undoubtedly take the support of EVERYONE on the collective Left!

3. The rebuke from her own party was severe. The Ohio Democrats Progressive Caucus, an official advisory group of the state party, issued a blistering page-long statement declaring that its members were now less willing to doorknock for her—before the post puzzlingly vanished shortly thereafter.

“Sexual orientation, Gender identity” is how it’s used in almost every nondiscrim statement. In fact there is even an acronym for it. SOGI. I cover this for a living and can tell when things like this are excluded. Here, I went to a random company (coca cola). You’ll see it in almost every corp.

Erin Reed @erininthemorning.com · 17/07/2026
Two notes: This contains no walkback of her support on sports bans, calling trans girls boys, etc. And then also, her added statement has "sexual orientation" but not "gender identity." Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Amy Acton needs to apologize for her harmful statement and come out against sports bans.
Standing Up for Ohio’s LGBT Community
All Ohioans deserve to be treated fairly and equally under the law. As governor, I am committed to standing up against discrimination and ensuring that every Ohioan — including members of the LGBT community — receives equal protection under the law.

I will push for anti-discrimination laws so Ohioans aren’t unjustly fired from their job or denied housing, other public accommodations, or equal pay because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. As governor, I will be focused on bringing our communities together, not on sowing hatred and division; every Ohioan deserves to live freely and be treated with dignity.

5. The statement drew swift condemnation from Democrats. The Ohio Democrats Progressive Caucus issued a blistering rebuke: "Our hearts break for those kids. Those who disagree with that will never vote—let alone doorknock—for Amy Acton." Then they swiftly took down the post.
OHIO DEMOCRATS
PROGRESSIVE
CAUCUS
Regarding Amy Acton's recent statement on trans youth in sports:
We amplify the voices of our progressive members across Ohio. Our members have rightfully had a range of reactions to the recent statement, so our collective response is likewise varied, however:
We are unified in believing Democrats win when they 1) unapologetically defend victims of MAGA fearmongering and 2) Make clear their plan to improve the material conditions of everyday Ohioans.
ZERO Ohioans have become better able to buy groceries by keeping child sport players away from their favorite sport. Our hearts break for those kids. Those who disagree with that will never vote - let alone doorknock - for Amy Acton.
Simultaneously, our progressive members were more ready to doorknock for her than they are today in light of her recent statement. Not out of malice, but out of the bad feeling in our chests.
Any one of us could have warned her of that natural consequence if any one of us had been in the room with her. Despite our disagreement on this issue, we remain ready to work with her to achieve our shared goals to improve life in Ohio.
Currently her inner circle does not include a voice representing the newest and largest constituency caucus in Ohio. We believe she will be best equipped to win in November by having a FULL picture of what her constituents want. We hope she will allow us to provide our missing piece of that picture as she goes forward.

When I criticize Dems in the United States who waffle on transgender issues, its because I don't want them turning into Labour UK, who pretty much has fully espoused transphobia and is enacting extreme harm on trans people in that country far worse than the conservatives had done.

Amnesty International UK report on the anti-rights movement in the UK
EDM 603: tabled on 14 July 2026
Tabled in the 2026-27 session.
This motion has been signed by 4 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.Motion text
That this House expresses extreme concern
at Amnesty International UK's report
entitled A Growing Threat: the Anti-Rights
Movement in the UK, published on 8 July;
condemns its depiction and listing of
organisations defending the rights of
women, girls, children, and gay and
bisexual people as anti-rights on the basis
of them being gender critical; further
condemns its depiction and listing of
organisations of parents and of clinicians as
promoting conversion practices; notes that
organisations depicted as supposedly anti-rights includes many grassroots women's rights organisations doing vital work domestically and internationally with vulnerable women and children, and a rape crisis centre and support service for female that gender critical belief is a protected belief under the Equality Act 2010 and reflects the views of the majority of the public; also notes that it is perfectly
survivors of male violence; further notes
legitimate to organise around the protected
characteristic of sex and to offer single-sex
spaces, as clarified by the recent SupremeCourt ruling in For Women Scotland vs The Scottish Government; recognises that such organisation, work and services are fundamentally important; also condemns the report for making unevidenced characterisations; acknowledges the damaging impact of such baseless accusations for the small grassroots charities and organisations listed; and calls on Amnesty International to withdraw the report, issue a formal public correction and apology acknowledging the reputational harm, and pledge that Amnesty staff who hold gender critical beliefs can express such beliefs without fear of bullying or harassment.Antoniazzi, Tonia
