We demand that Mayor Zohran Mamdani fire NYPD Commissioner Tisch and use every power available to him to drive ICE out of New York City. We further demand the mayor abolish the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG) and Community Response Team (CRT), specialized units used to suppress dissent.

Statement continues: Socialist elected officials must lead this fight, not capitulate or waver in the face of political pressure or sacrifice the immigrant community for the sake of other reforms. DSA electeds must use their offices to confront institutions and use every lever under their control. They should not stand in opposition to those protesting to abolish ice but join their ranks as a leading figure, serving to mobilize working class people rather than retreat into political expediency while immigrant communities suffer the most. Our principles are not a set of aspirations to abandon when they become inconvenient; they are a mandate for action.

We demand that Mayor Zohran Mamdani fire NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and use every power available to him to drive ICE out of New York City. The Mayor’s office must end New York City’s cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to the fullest extent possible and mobilize every resource at its disposal to protect immigrant New Yorkers from detention and deportation.

We further demand the mayor abolish the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG) and Community Response Team (CRT), specialized units used to suppress dissent. A socialist administration cannot claim to stand with working class movements while maintaining police units that intimidate and repress them.

DSA's national program is clear: we must abolish ICE. An injury to one is an injury to all.

Statement continues: This violence is a horrifying demonstration of the terror ICE brings into our communities. The working class is not safe so long as we allow an armed deportation force to operate with impunity. This attack follows a broader pattern of ICE violence, including running over Miguel Parra-Hernandez with a vehicle in Texas and murdering Carlos Roberto Montoya in California while fleeing an ICE raid.

DSA’s national program is clear: we must Abolish ICE. We demand an end to ICE detention and deportations, the prosecution of federal agents, the free movement of all people, and amnesty for all immigrants regardless of status.

ICE is not an exception to an otherwise just immigration system. It is just one among many instruments of the capitalist state that criminalizes the poor, divides workers, and uses the threat of detention and deportation to make the whole of the working class vulnerable to exploitation. Our solidarity does not depend on our immigration status. An injury to one is an injury to all.
