At this comic shop in Santa Barbara I appreciated the real spiderwebs getting in on the theming.

What a nice reminder. Thanks @david-william4.bsky.social! & here I was going through the day with zero awareness that today’s the anniversary of A Christmas Story Christmas! To commemorate, here’s a photo from right before filming the first shot and another of the last shot before we wrapped.

@lightboxexpo.com was huge, packed full of enthusiastic artists, and exciting as always. @bobbychiu.bsky.social has created something special to look forward to every year. Here’s our panel on Friday, you can’t see the screaming, cheering audience, but they were there, trust me.

I’ll be at Lighbox Expo this Friday, speaking on a panel at 3:30 - Adapting Games into Animated Series and Films - with my Angry Birds directing partner Fergal Reilly @f3rgal.bsky.social. Hope to see some familiar and new faces there!

Recent animated game adaptations have crushed it with fans like Arcane or at the box office with Sonic. Making them is hard though: these games have rabid existing fanbases much larger than comics, the games are still ongoing, some have thin story, and Hollywood + games have had a storied history with many previously failed film adaptations. Hear from the creatives, who adapt these beloved IP into animation, share how they do it well.

I made this video last year, just over a week after my dad passed, where I talked about how it all helped me to re-prioritize my life. At the time I had posted it on IG, but I dumped Meta a while ago.

My dad passed away one year ago on June, 19. A year goes so fast. I miss him and still think about calling him all the time to tell him about what happened during my day.

There’s this stone in my bathroom floor, right in front of the toilet and I can’t help but see a face every time I take a sit (ahem). I’m getting Johnny from Karate Kid on Halloween vibes. Or maybe the Misfits? Who does this look like to you?

I watch tons of different stuff but I love how when I fall asleep watching YouTube on tv, it knows to start playing seven episodes of Norm Abram’s New Yankee Workshop back to back. Peak algorithm. #chefskiss

If you’re in L.A., I definitely recommend you give the @skirball.bsky.social a visit for the Jack Kirby exhibition (free on Thursdays!). If you’re not totally versed in Kirby (like me) it’s the perfect-sized show to get your feet wet, and get inspired.

I baked my first cake all from scratch and I’m sorry to say, it wasn’t very good. I’m sensing a pattern: my first try at baking most things is pretty miserable. You win some, you lose some. In case you’re wondering, not much flavor, dry and dense, and the buttercream frosting tasted generic

Positive side-effect of food poisoning: I had time to watch The Beatles: Get Back. Fascinating look into the creative process of pressure + genius. In one month they created some of the greatest songs ever. I was relieved to find there was no “bad guy,” just four guys trying to keep it together.

Saw The Eagles at Sphere in Vegas on Friday night. Absolutely incredible experience. And within 30 minutes of leaving, absolutely incredible food poisoning kicked in (not Sphere related). Made it home yesterday but I’ll be in bed all day wishing for a 🎵 “peaceful easy feeling” 🎵

I told Siri to “play some music” and damn, she did not disappoint. BTW, if you haven’t listened to the almost 10 minute “Finale (William Tell Overture)” by Zimmer you gotta do it at least once in your life. It is… unique.

The 4th book I started reading in 2025 is the first one on the recommended reading lists from The Well-Educated Mind: Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes (1605), translated by Tobias Smollett (1755). 140/942 pages in & it’s surprisingly funny! Didn’t know much about it and I’m enjoying it. #booksky

My first book of 2025: The Lost Cement Mine by James W.A. Wright. Collection of Wright’s newspaper articles on the legend of a found, then lost “ledge of reddish cement spangled with flakes of purest gold” in the area of Mammoth Lakes, CA. They say whoever finds it will find death! Whos with me??
